CAD, CATIA, Pro-E, matlab build help

Thread Starter
My GF's brother needs a PC capable of running CAD, CATIA, Pro-E, and matlab. It doesn't need to be capable of gaming, but it needs to run the above programs very well.

I have no clue what kind of components a build like he requires needs (whether it be CPU dependent, RAM dependent, VRAM dependent, etc.).

Could someone please enlighten me as to what hardware a computer needs to run the above well. He said he doesn't care if it's a laptop or a desktop, pre-built or custom built.

Thanks in advance.

A CPU with a lot of cores, if he can afford it a Xeon or an AMD 1000-Series (1055T, 1075T, 1090T, 1100T). There're a few six cores for you, he should also get a large amount of RAM. 8-12GB+ (depending on platform, e.g. Dual Channel or Triple).

Get a 1366 chip, 950ish, 24gigs of ram. I'm about about to build two workstations ala mini farm. They need 24gigs each minimum to open some of the files in Solidworks. Getting 24gigs is a lot easier when you have 6 banks for dimms. And skip the amd chip, not enough go fast.
