Some advice on memory for a trading build...

Working on a new PC that is primarily used to run trading software (charting, researching, etc). There will be a lot of multi-tasking, and it will be powering 4-6 screens possibly.

CPU will be i5 2500k with a light overclock to 4.0-4.5ghz (as far as I can get without too much voltage).

hdd will be raid 10 with wd blacks

video is 2x evga gtx 460s or 450s--just because they offer ample outputs and scale well (wont be gaming on this machine at all)--any suggestions for video card that can output to 3+ displays for $100 or less?

ram: can't decide between 8gb or 16gb. I don't think 16 is necessary, but I'm a little unsure on this..

any input on these questions for the type of usage the pc will have?

You should look towards AMD EyeFinity technology for your screens, and if you aren't running some very intensive rendering or editing programs 8GB should be fine.

I was thinking that--I'm not too familiar with AMD/Eyefinity totally, but for $170-$200 I could have 6 outputs on the two NVIDIA cards. $200 is my complete upper limit, cannot go over that. Can AMD/Eyefinity match/beat this for the same price or less? ($200, 6 outputs or more, 1 or 2 card setup)

Unless those 6 outputs are the same type, you probably wont be able to plug multiple screens in. They're usually just for compatibility.

I don't think you want eyefinity for this - Eyefinity will span the start bar across all of the bottom attached screens which can be very annoying for desktop tasks - obviously not true for gaming. I think you will want to look at a nice card with multiple inputs, but not necessarily eyefinity.

Have you considered the eyefinity 6 card without eyefinity enabled? For example the 5/6870 eyefinity 6?

You can find a single card for 200-300 used if you shop around. The other good thing about this card is that it has 2gb of VRAM so it can support the displays without a problem. You can also attach displays with different resolutions, unlike with the eyefinity enabled setup.

I think if you shop around you can do it. NewEgg had a sale on the 5870 right before they discontinued it for 179.99 - would have been great if you could have picked one up then. You might search around to see if you can snatch one up around that price still. I got my 2nd one at around 219 I believe.
