I'll buy it just to see how well it folds

I'm not sure if I agree with that logic. I am excited for BD to drop, and I do hope it does well in performance, and sales. I'm not going to buy one, I'm going to try to make my lynnfield last until the 14nm CPU's come out.

It would be nice for AMD to actually challenge Intel though, other than just offering good performance for the price.
Yeah, it's how the ball rolls when comparing CPUs. I mean a calender year is really close in terms of CPUs, since they take forever and a day to develop and manufacture.

I am concerned that no solid benches have come out so late in the game. I want the chip, but AMD's big secret better be a good one.

Has anybody else pondered AMD's decision to choose "Bulldozer" as the code name? I mean most of the time the Codenames are completely unrelated to technology (ie.. City names, regions, star maps..) But a bulldozer has 2 qualities that oppose each other that could be the enduring stigma of the chip release.

1. Bulldozers can move alot of junk at once, and clearly with 8-12 cores, that is just what they plan to do.

2. Bulldozers are very slow to accommodate for high torque. Processors should not be slow.

If bulldozer under performs or just matches SB, it will be forever labelled.

If it matches SB and competes with SB-E i will be impressed. And pretty d@mn happy. Comparing bulldozer's release to the Late arrival and partial fail of phenom is rather irrelevant. Bulldozer is arguably the first new architecture AMD has done from ground up since the A64. So give it a chance.

As the brand loyalty arguments in this thread are indeed ridiculous IMO, go for the performance you can afford, and enjoy.

Just to reiterate, try to get back on topic. As my Rig presumably says, yes i'll be getting bulldozer.

I will be buying regardless of how well it does against SB which is a good CPU but it is not the holly grail guys lol, I do some bench wars myself but all in fun and just trying to get the most out of my money! I have stepped on I5's and I7's in gaming averages but also been stomped myself, but I don't get all mad and act as if I was personally attacked because I was running a AMD or Intel. I only care about one thing when it releases and that it works with out a hole bunch of dam glitches and needing Bios updates left and right. I also don't want to see any of the same probs Intel just went through with there recall!

I am able to max out almost every game at this point on all my rigs, the only thing holding back the almost to all is the GPU and even then we are only talking like GTA IV because of the video ram needed for 100% view distance (which I am at 78% with max on the rest) I own about 136 steam games so I think I game a little lol and have tested my theory pretty well I think, if your goal is bench mark scores then everyone know Intel is king and will always be. But if you just want a good gaming rig that you can enjoy with out hassle, well then you have a hard choice to make lol as they are both suited very well and you will not be disappointed with ether choice.

I even am running a LGA775 Q9550 which is still pulling its weight, in fact it games just as well if not even better in some games. I have many systems as I have two homes and 5 kids so I can literally test each one myself and there is allot to be said for all the chips out, they each have there good points.

lol your insight is very enlightening.

Im gonna wait until benches come out before I decide to buy

I'll see how it folds before I consider, with 8 actual cores should be able to do bigadv.
