Whats the Custom Launcher for?
Custom dock icons, App launcher can be changed on how you scroll threw the list, 3D settings (not really 3D it's just how the look is changed) and you can narrow down your home screens, etc.. Can also speed up your home screen transitions and some overall performance of your phone if you have any. And set it to where you can have more items on each screen and custom widget fitting.

My top apps that I use for the over all feel of the OS are Launcher Pro (the free version), Widget Locker and Beautiful Widgets, as far as non rooted apps go that is.

Another you might want to look in to is juice defender, they have a free version of it you can test out. Also while reading up on apps I wouldn't advise a Task Killer, although nice when an app isnt functional, can hinder performance at times. AutoKiller is a nice little app that solves some of the issues with a task killer while still keeping your memory levels where you want them.

Also like Dustin1 pointed out, make sure to look threw the XDA forums, a lot of useful information can be found there.

You can probably add more apps:

Titanium Backup - batch app backup and restoration
QuickOffice - mobile Office suite for viewing/editing documents
Opera Mobile 11/Dolphin Browser HD - better internet browsers
Evernote - quick note-taking
GO Weather - Up-to-date weather forecasting
Lookout Plan B - in case your phone goes missing, this will ping its location
Dropbox - sync your files to and from your phone and PC
Google Music Beta - OTA music streaming for free
WidgetLocker - custom lockscreen and addition of widgets

While you're at it, widgets!

Make Your Own Clock - highly customizable clock/weather/battery widget
Minimal Reader - RSS/Google Reader widget
Simple Calendar - text-based calendar widget
Phantom Music Control - music app control widget

Just to add to the rest of this information.

Do NOT use a Task Killer.
-Anti-Virus
-ANY application that says it will save you battery life.

^-- Top three Apps NEVER to use.

Thread Starter
Whats that different style of keyboard thing? swipe I think its called? I find typing on this thing in portrait mode to be terribly inaccurate. Maybe the other style could be something I could adapt to a bit better.

Bit of feedback, so far I love the phone. I have had a few instability issues... textures and images being messed up on games when returning from the home screen to the app, market and music crashing, as well as a few browser crashes when utilizing google search (didn't even click the link to the page yet). But, it happened in the first day or so of using the phone and then everything has been working fine ever since. Loving Zedge for the backgrounds... using the a Joker background from Dark Knight right now and loving it, but I'm kinda over the silly ringtone stage of my life

Just trying to find some more things to make it a bit more unique. I think the Launcher would give me some neat things I'd really like. I also wish I had the clock widget from the HTC phones. There's something similar to it built into that Make Your Own Clock widget, but I didn't like it. I also disliked Handcent SMS so I deleted that as well. Stock messaging seems to suit me nicely.

If you like the Sense clock, Beautiful Widgets has a clock similar to that. You can buy it from the Android Market for $2.84. I'm also not a big fan of Handcent but I like GO SMS PRO a lot more than the stock one. There's tons of features and the UI looks really nice. There's also different themes that you can choose to change things up once in a while.

You can get Swype by registering for the open beta, then download the installer and app. Ever since the initial version, Swype has gone a long ways with its precision and predictive algorithm - you'll feel natural with it in no time.

There are some clock widgets similar to stock HTC Sense, like Animating Flip Clock Widget Beta (get it from XDA-Developers) among others.
