X4 955 in m2n-SLI

Thread Starter
So I finally got my hands on an AMD Phenom II x4 955 and succesfully installed it in my m2n-sli deluxe board.

CPUid proof:

CPU:

Motherboard:

I am running BIOS 5001, and I reset all my settings to default before installing the CPU. When I got into the BIOS for the first time after installing the x4, I had to use my keypad to navigate instead of the other arrows, which isn't really a big deal. However, once I loaded up windows and opened the nvida control panel, it says my multplier is at 4x and wont let me change it. I also noticed that the voltages reported by CPUID looked low, but the BIOS reported 1.35v. Cool'n'quiet is disabled, so I'm at a loss right now. Any ideas how to open up this beast of a CPU. Definitely a huge upgrade from my Athlon 64 x2 6400+, even if it is only at 800MMHz. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Sorry if this has been posted/wrong place. I have to be at work in like 20 minutes so I am rushing to get this posted.

That CPU isn't supported by your motherboard. I just looked on the asus website and it only supports up to the 945, so it doesn't support any of the Phenom II black edition chips. This is probably a good thing since your VRMs are kinda lacking.

Looks like unless you can find somebody who has experience with your exact board and CPU, you are out of luck.

The 955 is supported according to the global website CPU support list, just fine. A heatsinked 4 phase (albeit no split phase) won't be a very good setup for a 955 with much overclock, but it definitely won't fry on him at any point.

The m2n-SLi club has quite a few people running these. And they are running higher then the 800mhz. I could have sworn there were other people with the same problem. I followed the guide step-by-step so I'm stuck in a rut.

I had that motherboard and the guy I gave it too stuck a X2 555 in with no problems. I doubt it will be a phenomenal overclocker but it will likely work fine for you at 3.5~ish.

First go to bios ,set cpu volts to 1.35v,then go to windows control panel and set power options to performance, that should give you the cpu multi dropdown in Nvtools, set each core to x16,save as profile.
Then go to device rules(bottom right) make new rule, set profile to load at windows start and it will load your settings at startup, otherwise it will boot at 800mhz and you will have to set it each time you boot.

If you plan to oc you need to set the cpu multi in the bios and then in Nvtools and all other adjustments can be made in the bios.
Most set it to x18 in the bios and that will give you up to x18 in the tools.

Then if you don't want to run at full speed all the time, switch windows power options to balanced and it should work like C&Q.

You will also notice 2 new settings in the bios,
1- ganged/unganged ram,set this to auto and it will run in unganged mode.
2- cpu-nb frequency and voltage,cpu-nb freq is 1600mhz stock with a locked multi of x8 the reference clock, but can be oc'd by increasing refclock.

Good luck

Asus boards have throttling features, go into bios and disable C1E & Cool & Quiet, or run Prime 95 and see if the Speed kicks up.

Im still not getting the drop down in my NVidia control panel. I set my cpu volts to i think 1.375 or 1.5 and the cpu multiplier to x18 and left the cpu speed at 200.

I believe I have virtualization enabled and everything else disabled. I noticed that somone has the 1801 BIOS running a 955, but it is a C2 and mine is a C3. Would that make a huge difference if I tried the other BIOS?

Did you set windows power options to performance?

1801 bios has a fix for slow boot times with ATI 5xxx gfx cards, you do not need it.
