Is the 6870 good for me?

Thread Starter
Well I've filled out my PC info in my signature to the best of my knowledge, with the help of System Information for Windows (Wizard).

The full name of the specific card I will be getting is the:
XFX HD 6870 Black Edition 1GB GDDR5
Available here: http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...odid=GX-190-XF

So yeah, I just want to know if it's worth my money? The games I play mostly are:
Multi Theft Auto (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas)
All Points Bulletin: Reloaded
Global Agenda
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Hitman: Blood Money
Counter Strike Source

The small side note I would also like to ask is the OverClockers.co.uk website says the card specs are HD-687A-ZDBC BUT it says in the title HD-687A-ZNBC - Which is more reliable? and could I return the product based on inaccurate advertisement?

I did consider using eBuyer but I saw no mention of any Warranty, nor any condition (Are they brand new? Second hand? or what..?)

Opinions plox! kthx.

Yeah, 6870 is a great card for gaming, But don't tell me your using it with your Athlon II, You may see some signs of bottleneck.

Unfortunately yes I would be using it with my Athlon II - It's good enough for me, and I may eventually upgrade my CPU - I got a MoBo & CPU & RAM combo-deal from amazon, all on offer in a group so my parents bought for me as a birthday gift.

Right now I just really hate being stuck with my 5450, it can't handle ****.

Alright then, I guess it won't bottleneck, As long as you don't do uber cpu intensive tasks

Yea, I remember quite often hearing people saying your card will not have as big of a risk at bottlenecking if you run it at the same resolution as your desktop. Though I know that isn't the case with my 5450 unfortunately (especially not in APB, which I would play more if my PC wasn't so sluggish with the 5450 - hence why I need a new card).

go with neither.
get the ZNFC version. its REFERENCE, so the PCB is more reliable and has voltage control. reference boards support aftermarket coolers and waterblocks as well so ZNFC IS THE WAY TO GO!

I really want to go with something that has a high core and memory speed, the ability to control anything is a bonus (though I don't intend to be voiding my warranty by overclocking the speed, atleast until the warranty expires anyways), but so long as the card does a damn good job at rendering my games I'd be happy.

I wouldn't even know what to do with the voltage controller anyways, so it'd be of no personal use to me.

Got any particular advice as to where to buy it from?
I want to go with an e-tailer as I don't really have any way of travelling to the store to buy one. Preferably a brand new card with warranty (atleast 1 year).

my personal favorate etailer is www.newegg.com . www.tigerdirect.com is my second fav.

overclocking wont void your warrenty. i overclocked my XFX (refurbished and good batch) HD4890 to the moon and when i accidently shocked it with static, i RMA'd it and got a 5830 back.
there is no way manufacturers can tell that u OC'd ur card unless the do a FULL examination which is costly and pretty pointless.
XFX's double life time warrenty covers OCing in the USA, and the warranty is lifetime for another person too if you resell the card.

this is OCN. you WILL learn how to use voltage control and things like that. i started out just like you back in 09. now im running my 6870 at 1Ghz/1150Mhz 24/7!

trust me getting the voltage control is SO WORTH IT i cant emphasize this more. buy a XFX black edition HD6870. most of the time the ones with the reference blower type heatsink is reference and will have voltage control. it clocks pretty high too. 940Mhz/1150Mhz out of the box compared to 900Mhz/1000Mhz standard.

btw dont listen to most of the bullcrap some ppl say about XFX. ive had 0 issues with them and im on my 4th XFX card! my RMA was smooth but not exactly quick -__-
XFX is still good tho. people got bent out of shape when that whole bad batch HD4890 crap happened.
