Poor shame Seagate bought out Samsung Hard Drives. Hopefully they will take notes. I'll be buying an F3 or 2 while I can, in the meantime.

Nope. I've got pretty shoddy luck with HDDs as well - but I plan for when a drive failure will occur.

I used to love them, before they acquired Maxtor. Then their drives quality went way down. I had a whole bunch - enough died within a week to nuke my RAID 0+1 array while it was rebuilding...

I will second avoiding Maxtor. (and thus Seagate, for me)

No major issues with WD. A few RMAs, but I had months warning, so I didn't lose a thing. Quite different from Seagate - all my Seagate deaths were overnight.

Samsung drives sucked before the F3's and F4's.

Doesn't seem you've done all that well.. I'm glad I'm not alone lol xD
I don't plan for a drive faiure 'per say' but I do keep backups on external and other HDDs. So If one does go down, I'd lose nothing, or only a few recent things at the most.
I managed to RMA the same /and or replacement WD drive 4 times in 2 months.. :| I'm guessing I just got the worst batch ever of WDs and I'm staying away from them for the time being.

Almost all my drives are samsung.

1 x 750gb F1
1 x 500gb F1
5 x 1tb F3
5 x 2tb F4

All have been great. The F1 drives were used quite heavily for a few years and still work perfectly.

I have had my F3 for about 8mo now. It works perfect as an os drive. For the last 4mo or so I have had a F4 for storage. I love both drive's! I dont have a single complaint about them.. As far as how they compair to WD Blacks its no comparison IMO, yes blacks are a tad faster, but you'll hardly notice. I always used blacks befor this F3/F4 and I'm glad I used them! They are cheaper than the blacks and feel every bit as snappy. Unless you like to drool over benchmarks, get the samsungs
