Need recommendation for new head set

Thread Starter
After about 4 years my SteelSeries 5Hv2's gave out, and I now need to get a replacement. My problem is I really don't know much about head sets and my 5Hv2 were a gift. My budget is around 100-150cdn before rebates.
Thanks

What are you looking to do with your headset? FPS games? Music? If yes, what kind of music?

Fail, I know I missed something.
I use them mostly for MMO's and FPS (hence the headset) I just use my speakers for music and non multilayer games.

Do you want a boom mic or are you ok with a clip-on microphone? You can get better sound quality by going with a set of headphones and a clip-on microphone for the same price as a headset (barring certain exceptions).

The Siberia V2s are good headphones for FPS

All right. Glad we got that out of the way first. I didn't want to start recommending you headphones only for you to say you want a headset .

I would suggest the Cooler Master Storm Sirus. They have been getting great reviews thus far (LegitReview). The Storm Sirus headset is a true 5.1 Surround Sound headset with 4 drivers in each cup (3 30mm drivers and 1 40mm driver that acts as a subwoofer). Normally, I wouldn't recommend true 5.1 headsets because usually they're terrible quality-wise with puny drivers shoved into the earcups, but these seem like the real deal. The Storm Sirus also includes an audio mixer for on-the-fly sound adjustments. They are already shipping and should be hitting retail next week, according to a CM rep.

Another suggestion would be the SteelSeries Siberia V2 as mentioned above. Don't expect much in the sound quality department from these, but they will provide good positional audio and they're comfortable. Also worth mentioning is the Sennheiser PC360's, which use the same drivers as the HD595's (might be out of your price range).

Thanks for all the help....I think I will get Steelseries Siberia V2. I liked my 5Hv2 so I will stick with what works.

Also had a 5.1 head set that I ended up shelving because they were basically junk and that left a bad taste in my mouth so don't want to risk buying 5.1's again.

There's currently a sale over at SteelSeries.com. You can get 30% off of everything. Here's the link for the Siberia V2's. Enter code QC2011 at checkout. Should come out to $63 before shipping.

Thanks for the code, I will try it out but international shipping may be the killer.....may end up being cheaper to buy from a Canadian retailer.
