Cray XE6 is an updated version of the Cray XT6 supercomputer, powered by AMD Magny-Cours CPUs.
Heard about this today, perhaps a bit late. Source

A family member of mine saw it today at the base. Apparently the cooling equipment alone weighs in at 1,800 tons.

Reminds me of ORNL's Jaguar computer. It is based on XT4's and XT5's. Mostly dual socket, 6 core instanbul racks. Lots of em and all water cooled from what I gather. I think it is still the number 2 computer in the world. I live within 1/2 mile from the ORNL building that houses it

Yeah, it was top dog for about a month, then something bigger and better was built. I would love to have the security clearance to see it up close though.

They said it could process every U.S. tax return for the year 2010 in 1 millisecond. Someone needs to build one of those for the IRS.

I'm sure they could put it to more use than JUST processing our taxes.

Then why not just borrow one of the other supercomputers in the U.S. for one millisecond?

If I remember right isn't the worlds largest now based in Japan or something? was like twice the size of this one and IBM's one that overtook the Creys or something.

Yeah, the Fujitsu K Supercomputer. Consumes more power than 10,000 houses do in a year.

And the IRS thing was a joke, although sometimes they could use a swift kick to get them going.
