Trying to figure out what is causing the low fps in Bad Company 2 - Page 3

I have a guide in my sig that may be of help to shed light on overclocking made specifically for newbeis and was modeled off of what I learned with my Q6600.

BTW, the Q6600 is built like a tank. It takes one hell of a pounding to kill it so don't be afraid to let her run a little hot but keep it below 85C.

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...-core-2-a.html

Also, as far as your heat sink goes, it is okay but you want to put a fan onto it to keep things cool. A q6600 produces a lot of heat, and I even dare say as much or more than a core i7. @ 3.72GHz I am pushing close to 200+ watts of heat here.

Also to add onto what brett said. Though your board is decent, I don't see any stellar overclocks on it and I am not sure if it can handle 400MHz FSB. The best boards for overclocking quads are X48 and P45 boards, especially the GA-EP45-UD3R/P boards.

Also for additional help try here

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=274981&mpage=1

From what i can see it may be that there is an FSB wall on your board.... Looks like most people can only get to about 350Mhz FSB... or between 1450 and 1650FSB... AKA between 362 and 412 there seems to be a hole.... Which means that you could go to 3.6GHz and have no issues, or you could be stuck because your board won't budge as it won't even boot at a certain setting to another, but as soon as you push it higher, it works just fine. Just gotta play with teh board and see where it lies.

Thanks for all the helpful information everyone!

Well my cpu is @ 3.0GHz now and this is what i did: my FSB is at 1344 (lowest is 400 highest is 2500. i saw on Xeb's guide that the FSB shouldnt be over 400 with DDR2 800MHz RAM so im kinda confused about that.) I tried running my cpu @ 3.2GHz, but my computer crashed after like 10 minutes of having bad company 2 open and alt tabbing to open everest. Idk if upping the voltage will allow me to run @ 3.2 or not and idk if I need to up the voltage right now for 3.0, so i left it at where it was. As far as gameplay fps, not much of a difference was made and the temp of my cpu while playing was around 42c.

Your motherboard is reporting the FSB as QDR or Quad Data Rate. Divide the number in BIOS by 4, that's your REAL FSB. 1333 / 4 would be 333 x 9 or 3.0GHz. You're at 1344 QDR / 4 = 336FSB x 9 = 3024MHz or 3.02GHz.

Keep pushing! Put your RAM to 1:1 (would put it at DDR2-672 or 336MHz with your current settings). That'll help pull RAM out of the equation. Just keep bumping vcore as needed, and maybe NB voltage (in small increments as needed).

So, now I'm at this ( http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...%20bios/12.jpg ) page and I put the cpu core at 1.5 because I put the cpu at 3.6GHz, memory at 2.2 (because it's rated at 2.1-2.2v and the ram is right here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231148 ) and everything else is on auto. Should I change any of the other voltages?

You shouldn't need to, I dont' think. Just lower your RAM divider so you know your RAM is within spec. And go to town on the FSB. Once you start getting unstable, up your vcore a tad at a time till its stable. If that doesn't work, increase your FSB volts.

Do note, that LGA 775 does have FSB holes in places too (board dependant). So if you hit a wall somewhere, drop your CPU's multiplier really low, drop your RAM really low, and try to find where that hole stops at (will be like 50-100MHz higher). You'll figure it out though when that time comes.

Well, I put my cpu down to 3.2GHz with 1.5 volts because anything more than 3.2GHz @1.5v wouldnt boot me into windows and I was just running prime95 and it crashed my computer after like 5 minutes. I heard I shouldn't put my cpu core voltage more than 1.5v. Just put my fsb at 1.5v (that's the max) and gonna run prime95 and see what happens.

What clocks are you using to get 3.2GHz? What are your temperatures like at 1.50v vcore? Are you using 400 x 8, or 356 x 9? What about RAM divider? RAM timings?
