Can you clean install a Upgrade version of Windows 7?

Thread Starter
For a new build I want to buy Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade since I can get it very cheap and save like $100.

I don't have any old XP or Vista keys atm.

Would I be able to clean install an upgrade version of the OS on a brand new system?

Yes.

Tons of articles on this.
Google is your friend.
Not to mention, I think there is a thread on here.

Why yes you can. Install Windows 7, enter the key, it will say invalid. Restart computer and choose upgrade this time and it will work.

Yep, I did it myself, and it's real easy. Just install it once but uncheck "verify automatically online" while installing and then go to the desktop, then run the installation from the disk and this time you'll be "upgrading" from your windows 7 to windows 7. After that, you can input the code and voila, clean install of windows!

1. install your OS using the upgrade disk. do not put the key and finish up the install.
2. once the installation is finished, reboot yoor pc and boot on the DVD OS installer and then install it again. you can do a clean reinstall. the installer will think the you have an ols os in there, therefore it will accept your upgrade key.
3. after successful installation, activate windows via net or phone.
4. enjoy!
