New gaming builld centered around i7-2600k, advice needed. - Page 4

Third, nobody said it (the i7-2600k) was bad for gaming.

Fourth, how is whether a post is helpful irrelevant? I came here for advice so I think it is quite relevant.

It's cool though, you made your joke...we all had a big laugh...go ahead and move on unless you have something helpful to the topic at hand to add. Or don't, last post I'll waste responding to this.
They mean that CANNED BENCHMARKS [i.e cinebench, 3dmark 11, uningine heaven] are unhelpful and irrelevant, which they are...

I posted GAME BENCHMARKS which are completely relevant and important to your decision.

Again, you can spend [read: waste] the 100 dollars on a 2600k for your gaming cpu that will, as I just posted using actual games [not canned benches], not give you any benefit whatsoever or you can put the saved money into your pocket/somewhere else in your build.

Simple as that. and suggesting I added nothing helpful is sort of humorous because I posted 11 actual game benches which would further explain why the 2500k is the best decision for a gaming focused build.

If you want to pretend it was someone else who posted those benchmarks so you can pretend like I'm a completely unknowledgable idiot, go ahead. i don't care. i'm trying to save you money that you can spend making your build better

I'm not trying to pretend anything. You edited your post and added something helpful. I appreciate the advice.

Thank you.

So I'm looking at cases now. It was suggested in the first reply I go with a full ATX tower. Is that the general consensus? Moving on to the cooling unit and case.

Depends on your needs/wants. If you don't move your computer, full towers are [obviously] the most spacious and can [but not always will] offer better cooling, cable management, features, etc.

That being said, a good mid tower will probably suit the vast majority of people just fine and can be had at much lower costs than the average full tower.

Some good mid towers to take a look at are the 690 II advanced, the fractal R3, and some of corsair's offerings.. although those do come at quite the price premium.

There's a lot of options with case though. If you're a bit more specific on what you prefer in a case I'm sure you will get a case that is suited toward you rather than one that is just big.

Yeah looking over the full towers, the difference in cost jumps out quickly.

I don't move my computer around too often no. Besides price, the two main things are durability and I don't want the fans to be so loud that it obstructs what I'm doing on the computer. There are a couple that are kind of cool looking (which isn't that important) that aren't too expensive but not sure what the quality is like after reading the first 30 or so comments.

Edit: When I say "most important" I mean besides airflow. Helping keep the computer cool is obviously the most important factor. I kind of feel like if I'm adding a cooling unit, I kind of feel like I can skimp on the case some but that may be dangerous to think.

I'm not a case guru by any means, but the fractal R3 [wish we had the arc in the US!] is a very very quiet case which still has good airflow. TBH using speedfan my HAF922 is pretty close to silent since I leave most fans locked at 50% anyways, and I have a quiet card.. So I suppose the case decision may not be as important as I'm making it out to be in terms of noise.

Again, I'm not an expert with cases. Anyone who has something that fits the OP's needs better feel free to fill in here.

Few good full tower cases for a person who don't want to spend insanely on pc cases.
Cooler master haf932
nzxt phantom
antec 1200.
The more expensive ones are HAF-X,Lian li a70f & so on...

The HAF 932 with its big 230mm fans is really quiet and since it has such great airflow it helps everything else inside the case also keep spinning at speeds that are mostly inaudible unless you're in the middle of the night in a quiet room.

That's from my experience with the case. I'm a big fan...

Reading the reviews on the Fractal R3 and the 3 cases Aniket suggested, sounds like their fans do a great job by themselves. Maybe that little Hyper 212+ would be enough with one of these big cases?

Your best pick would be HAF 932 & yeah,cm hyper 212+ is enough, specially with a sandy bridge build.
Hope this helps.
