[KT] You Can't Buy BF3 on STEAM - Page 21

No thanks, if it requires Origin (EADM), then I will not buy it, period, end of story.
Odd, EA support has been quite helpful when I called them with issues. Steam, on the other hand just kept giving me a run-around when I had an issue.

Don't get me wrong, I think Steam is a great client. But Origin does have potential. Especially since it accepts retail keys as opposed to Steam.

What's the difference? The only difference I see is I don't need Origin to be running at all to play a game. Add to that, if you really want, just add the game to Steam as a non-Steam game and you can use overlay and chat.

Some people will complain about anything.
First of all, no one is calling for a boycott here. Just individuals expressing that they will not be purchasing it. There is no one here of any worth actively calling for others not to buy it as well. As far as differences go, there is a world of difference for me. One is by a developer and publisher that I actually trust in Valve. The other is by a developer that until recently had been seen in just a bad as light than Activision and Ubisoft. Look, if you want to buy and play the game on Origin, feel free to do so. None of us are telling you not to. I will skip out on this game until it does not require Origin and play Skyrim happily when released. EA's loss sale, not mine.

Well, don't get me wrong, I'm all for having multiple clients for competition sakes. But I do have the right to choose my own client that I want to run. And I have that same right to not use what clients I chose to not run. Because of my own personal experience, I refuse to use Origin. I support it existing though, but I won't ever use it.

And Steam does too accept retail keys. I loaded my DiRT3 retail key to it. Also loaded my retail Race07 key to it as well. I think I've got a few other retail keys that are on my Steam account.

I am sure there is some luck in regards to who you get for customer service. My thing is, I do not want my games on a separate download client. If they offered it without Origin on their retail box, I would totally go for it as it does not add another client I have to use. The fact that it is EA offering it bothers me as well, since they have pissed me off royally with their previous high handed DRM measures and attitude. The sudden shift recently could be just wolf in sheep's clothing. Like I said though, I am not asking anyone else not to buy it. This is just my personal consumer choice.

Seriously? That's an issue?

We used to not have Steam, and had to launch games individually. The horror.

It's 1 extra (or not even that, since you gotta open Steam as well) mouse click. And about 5 seconds of your life. If people are seriously that upset about this, my faith in humanity will plummet some more.

Has anyone tried getting Portal 2 from Direct2Drive? What about Impulse? You can't. It's on Steam only (correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't go browsing every digital distribution site ever, just D2D and Impulse since they're the biggest after Steam).

Were people angry at that? Was there mass rage and boycotting? I honestly don't remember, since I didn't care enough about P2, but if there wasn't that's just hypocritical.

I see both sides. EA is a BIG company, and they have an established infrastructure for delivering patches and DLC in game. They want to sell their game they want it, without restrictions.

Steam wants to keep all transactions through the steam platform. This sounds like a "big evil company" stance, but really, what pay-for-download service allows allows you to sell another pay-for-download service within the system? None, because it makes absolutely no business sense to allow.

EA is too big for steam, but I absolutely don't trust Origin. I guess I'll suck it up and buy it with origin.

Cool story? I think your's tops mine,
I only ever had it happen once and I've had it for say 3-4yrs, but just because you've never had problems google "steam problems" and tell me how many hits you get and report back....

I like battlefield so I don't care where I get it, funny thing is I won't have to open orgin or steam to play it

Havent read the thread but I can get BF3 for Origin at 20GBP = win
I dont mind Origin as much, I used it to download Crysis 2. The only thing that ticked me off was that it deleted the installer files after it had dled and installed the client, made my friend rage since he didnt have any usage left :L

From what I've seen as long as Origin does not have something similar to steamworks (originworks herp) then using it to dl bf3 will just get you securom/similar, you'll be able to launch using the executable without Origin.

You are missing the point. I have a friends list on Steam, people I know and like playing with, people that share many of the same games I own and we play all of them together. Steam manages all my updates, it even acts as a chat program. I always have Steam running.

I don't want to have to have a second, inferior version of Steam running at the same time. I don't want to have to manage two friends list, worry that my Steam friends aren't on Origin or that my Origin friends aren't on Steam, etc.

It is a moot point anyway. I guarantee you that 6 months after BF3 launches it will come to Steam. Steam is too big to ignore in the PC market. The only reason EA is doing this is to jump start Origin. They'll get all the early adopters, the hardcore gamers, to buy it on Origin and thus open an Origin account. Then 6 months down the line they'll offer it on Steam to access that customer base and move another 500,000 units.

Mark my words, 6 months after this game launches it will be on Steam.
