I'm sorry but could you make those arguments with a straight face? I mean "I dont like EA" wow thats a compelling reason not to buy what will likely be the years best game. Or it could be hacked. You realize the same can be said for steam too right?

- Dedicated servers for massive online FPS for as much ping/latency equality as possible as well as their admins to help regulate servers against cheaters, since cheat detection tools suck
- Higher resolution texture packs since PC's can actually handle it
- Control mapping that is obviously not simply ported over from a console
- Preferably some modding tools, but typically not a deal breaker for most
- Reasonable DRM measures so legitimate end users will not be punished

Again, the user base that is forgoing this purchase has no beef (well most of us do not) with DICE. What we do have an issue is with this new download client that EA is forcing down our throats. Some of us refuse to use it and therefore will not buy the game. You can keep on saying about how "unreasonable" or "trivial" that mindset is and honestly it doesn't matter what you say. There are lots of reasons we do not want to use Origin:

- It is made by EA
- It is another client service we have to install on our computer systems, one that currently uses 30% resources apparently
- It is another username and password we have to remember now
- Another client server that could possibly be hacked into, fail, or stop working

Again, I will stress that I am not saying that Origin, BF3, or Dice are bad in any way. I am sure that BF3 will turn out to be a great game and wholeheartedly wish its buyers to enjoy the game completely. I will also simply not buy it until there is away to avoid Origin and if not, oh well, not the first game I passed on nor will it be the last.

Except for the part where I might buy the game at retail (if it's good) and use Origin exclusively for activation, I fully agree with you!

+1

Can you honestly tell me with a straight face that personal bias does not factor into your desire to use a product? We buy products based on our likes and dislikes. My dislike for EA and them cramming another game downloading client down my throat simply outweighs my desire to purchase and play BF3.

Of course it could happen to Steam. Of course Steam accounts can be hacked and have been probably daily. I am not talking about Steam being better than Origin or anything like that. How clear do I need to be; I don't need another download service client on my computer. If EA had come out with Origin prior to Steam and improved it as much as Valve has improved Steam, this conversation may have very well been me talking about not buying a game exclusive to Steam. It is not about Steam > Origin or Origin > Steam, it is about having another download client service on my computer and another account that could possibly be exploited.

I see your point, however I disagree. Yeah I can say with a straight face my personal bias doesn't factor into where I buy my games. I buy games from whoever has them cheaper and who has what I want. Its called capitalism.

EA forcing their own digital platform has been inevitable. EA wants to make money, why would they want to give Steam a cut when they can do the same thing STEAM does? Why should STEAM be allowed to have a monopoly on digital sales because they were first? And no, I don't work for EA, I just don't see what all the fuss is over. Most people here have terabytes of storage space, tons of ram, insane processors, yet they are complaining about running one more application in the background? Get a grip folks.

I say good riddance, don't but it, but I know 99% of you moaning will buy it.

I guess I can also tell you that when we say "It's made by EA" it's just because the argument has already been explained in the previous pages. EA does not have the best track record when it comes to it's relation with the customers. And there are several examples cited in the previous posts in this thread.

As to the year's best game ? It's going to be difficult beating Portal 2, simply because Portal 2 has a different concept and is, in my opinion, masterfully executed, while BF3 is an FPS, which is a genre with lots of candidates every year. It will truly have to excel and innovate in many areas to stand out and reach the "best game of the year" accolade.

I sure hope it can fight for the title! I enjoyed BFBC2.

2. No, it doesn't use 30% of anything.

3. No, its the same email address/password you use to log into BC2/any Battlefield game in recent memory

4. I fail to see how this matters when all this hubbub is because you simply want the "option" of using a different client server that could also get hacked into, fail or stop working.

I never said Steam should be allowed a monopoly over digital distribution of games. I never said they were wrong for making BF3 exclusive to Origin either. I completely understand EA's business decision and desire to quickly established Origin as a download client with the huge fan base of a wildly popular BF franchise. I just simply dislike it and am making my dislike known by not purchasing the game as long as it requires Origin. If they ever do make it available either without Origin or on Steam (note this is very important) I will totally buy it in a heartbeat. The former would probably be smarter for EA, because it then keeps a sale out of Valve's hands and into theirs.

Origin is EA's decision is it not?

2. No, it doesn't use 30% of anything.

I see you forgot about the twitter you just posted today? Let me remind you:

3. No, its the same email address/password you use to log into BC2/any Battlefield game in recent memory

If I am to buy games off of Origin, I would then need to enter my payment information into the Origin storefront, essentially creating a store account no?

4. I fail to see how this matters when all this hubbub is because you simply want the "option" of using a different client server that could also get hacked into, fail or stop working.

Which part of I do not want another download client do you not understand?

1.
Nice way to dodge the actual point there.

2.
So one guy who played the alpha with a dual core and probably not enough ram (who also probably couldn't get satisfactory performance from his dual core and is blaming origin) complains that a program that doesn't use 30% of most peoples anything is using 30% of his resources. Another one tells you that it doesn't. Many more will tell you the same. Try and find anyone with credibility/common sense/a non sucking rig to tell you Origin uses 30% of their system resources.

You could even try yourself.

3.
.......you said it would be different password. It's not. Its the same password. Less point dodging please?

4.

What part about your actual point being Origin is another client that can be hacked/stop working/etc, when Steam can also be hacked/stop working/etc do you not understand?

Or is this whole post I'm quoting just you basically skipping circles around the actual points I made just to have something to say in return?

I suppose this will also truly be your last reply

The worst part of all this is that our discussion is actually revealing how very little you actually know about what you're making so much fuss over.
