[KT] You Can't Buy BF3 on STEAM - Page 28

I have had many issues with EA and their download manager. The only thing I have learned is even after they delete your download permission make sure you have the serial number saved and an email with the proof of purchase saved. If you contact them with your serial number and the proof of purchase saved even for games older then 3 years old they always send me a link to download their games, and usually it ends up being the same stuff you would get on their CD instead of from their download manager which I usually like better anyway. Though honestly I am just going to get a CD for any EA games and just boycott origins altogether after having issues with being able to get into developer mode for crysis 2 on steam.

and oh yeah EA has come out with 3 different download manager none of which lasted over a year. I have bought games on all of them and every time they stop using one, the games are in accessible unless you contact ea themselvses and do what I say above. Neither D2D or Steam has ever done this, I still can play crysis 2 on steam after purchasing it before it was dropped. I can guarentee you from experience if EA dropped a game you all would loose access to it. Its very simple they treat all their games as licenses and charge the same as the cd version. When you have a cd you own the game and can have it for as long as you want, and let me tell you from their history their download managers don't last for more then a year and I like to keep my games for more then a year. I already have lost half a dozen games due to this, and every time I want it I have to contact them numerous time to get them to give me a link to get a copy. Takes a good week, they still have all their games online they just decide to treat them as licenses and try to make you pay a 2nd time for the game after awhile to make more profit. Save your money get a retail version, better yet support small buisnesses and buy one from a small local shop. Not best buy.

EA/Bioware eventually gave him his account back claiming that it was caused by an error (http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/to.../index/6484816). Although any respect I had for EA disappeared when I found out they actually planned ahead in the TOS to be able to lock you out of your account and purchases forever and then pushed it a step farther and actually did it.

Yeah but pirating will just give them an excuse to put more drm technology on their games and blame pc users once again and then just take the game away from the PC altogether. I know its hard to believe but I have games up to 6 years old, none of them I have access to unless I ask them to send me a copy of the game. So trust me if you want to own your games steam and D2D are the only trustworthy digtal way to go because they have been around for so long. Yes ea has had downloading managers for almost as long as steam, but they have always proven to not care about the digital content after the download manager dies and have always led toward putting more restrictions on to make more profit. Most of these restrictions are new and never were restrictions that applied to physical copies. If you allow competition in all it will lead to is you having a downloading manager for each game company and having them put what ever regulations on they want. For all I care ea probably disagreed with steam, because they probably wanted steam to put limitations on their games like how long someone can own it. We need steam to be the primary one, why because its been around long enough to rely on it and they aren't the game creator's so they don't care about trying to sell you a game that you already owned, they just care about your respect as a customer for their service, which is soley to provide you digital content in a secure manner.

So I still have all my accounts that I previously purchased games from. Even before I ever registered for origins I was able to log into origins with my old accounts meaning they transferred the accounts from the old download managers to origins, but none of the games on the old download managers have been transferred to the new download managers and this is not new as this is what has happened for every download manager that they have come out. So I am not talking about them deleting your account. Just that they didn't connect the servers that hold their old games to their new download manager so even if people own games older then their download manager they don't give you access to them through the download manager. Steam does even if the game isn't on their store anymore they never delete the game server and always give the user access to the game perminantly. Also I never mentioned that EA has a licence limit so after you install it some number of times you loose your right to install it unless you contact them and ask for another, which sometimes due to the license of the game the will not grant you a new one as well.

Now just to remind you guys I am talking about accounts made from, ea's 2005 ea downloader, ea's 2006 ea link, and ea's 2007 ea store and download manager, all of which kept my account but each time a new one came out my account's game library was refreshed and none of the old games were ever transferred to the newer manager. Same still happened here none of my games I purchased on ea download manager or ea link appear on origins. I just hope for your sake it lasts longer then a year, and yes they have license expiration dates on their digital games read up.

http://support.ea.com/app/answers/de...sked-questions

"Q: Will my game download ever expire?
A: Digital download rights remain available for at least one year after purchase. Origin typically doesn’t retire games, and we’ve only retired around 10 of the 150 games we sell, and these have generally been because of the expiration of licensing rights. If you come across an issue, simply contact Origin Help and we'll reconfigure things for you."

If it was required for ME3 then I'd have to stomach it, but the rest of their library, no. I could not tell you how absolutely livid I would be if i had to deal with any of the issues i mentioned. I might seriously go postal.

That has nothing to do with Origin.

EA have been able to do that way before Origin was even conceived. People who troll the crud out of official forums often have their EA account banned which means that they cant play the game online as you use your EA account to play EA games online on ANY platform.

People seem incapable of realising that your Origin account = your EA account = every persona linked to your Origin/EA account.

Massive headache? Functionality wise? You didn't play the alpha did you?

Or are you talking about what funkdr is talking about above? In which case, you're not getting away from anything they've been able to do on consoles for years and years and years.

Well I guess that's my answer to my question. You obviously just don't care enough about BF3 on the whole. Makes more sense now and I can see why what so many see as trivial can be a decider for you.

I always assumed that people posting in these threads actually had a deep interest in playing the games discussed, but those who have their choice swayed by which program is used to launch the game just dont really have the desire to play it I guess.

Makes sense now, thanks.
