help me overclock my phenom 8400!

hey guys.

My computer has been lacking in power recently. I dont have the money to upgrade and was looking at overclock my cpu. amd Overdrive hasn't worked so i have to do this the hard way. (fyi, amd overdrive says that it cant detect a compatible chipset.)

anyways, I'm a complete noob so go easy.

My specs are:

vista home premium
amd phenom 8400 triple core 2.1ghz
3070 mb ram. DDR3 if im not mistaken
bios pheonix award bios v6.00pg
nvidia geforce 9400 gt.

What i was wanting to do is essentially pump my ghz up from 2.1 to around 2.3-2.5
I have no clue how to go about doing this and googling hasnt helped me much at all. If this is the wrong section please let me know.

I can give more details if necessary.

Thanks for any help!

your phenom uses ddr2 and oc its only 400mhz depending on memory and board

set in the bios
memory to 533 or 667mhz
on fsb speed add 15mhz and test using games more than 1 hour if stable add another 15mhz
at some point you need to add some vcore to the cpu.

Hey thanks a lot for the quick reply!

When i go to my bios, i cant find any option to change memory or fsb speed. I've looked around and im assuming this is because my bios is "locked"

Is it still possible to overclock?

also as to what my motherboard is, I have no idea how to figure that out and google hasnt helped me. Im installing a program called everest now and if that works ill get back to you

EDIT: my motherboard is an Acer F690GVM

yes, acer aspire. Not entirely sure of the model. I have, however, added a new power supply and new graphics card

OC usually isn't possible through the BIOS of a factory made PC. You can try clearing the CMOS though; it's worked for me once.

Only works on the more recent AMD chipsets. Try CPU-Z to see what motherboard. You'll want that program for overclocking anyway. If you have a locked board there might be a modded BIOS out there somewhere.

Factory/OEM/prebuilt PCs are meant for stock operation and nothing more.
By that, I mean: non overclocking friendly motherboard components, chipset, cooler.... most BIOS options locked out...
Sorry to say but you may not have an option for overclocking.
