Polar Anxiety? No this is not another Carbon Footprint thread...Al Gore and Michael Moore would not approve of this super sized SUV of a case anyway
Nope, "Polar Anxiety" is the color CJ is going for on the exterior...White with a mist of red metallic in it. The interior is being left stock...if you can call taking it all apart and chopping it up and puting it back together "stock"
I've already gotten started on this mod with the elimination of the lower HDD caddy to make way for a 240 Radiator in the lower compartment and with a lower bay cover that will get graphics and lighting.
Other mods will be prep for powder coat on the exterior panels, de-hexing the top panel and a possible one-off treatment to the top (more on that later).
Although I have powder coated 3 other 800D cases this is the first "New" "In the Unopend Box" 800D I have had a chance to molest. I gotta say i am impressed. Corsair hit the case market like a Sumo Wrestler hits an all-you-can-eat Buffet...now I can see why there are so many 800D enthusiasts...its a very well made and engineered box.
However, it does have it's quirks. And lots and lots of plastic parts...so I am glad CJ is keeping the interior black...the black plastic bits won't need to be painted
One of the major technical triumphs of the Corsair 800D is the suspended Hot Swap bay above the middle panel. I can see some thought went into that...it's sandwiched by thick silicon dampers and out of direct contact with the chassis. Neat stuff...unless of course you like modding and remove some structural elements...then it poses a little challenge...which I will show you in a moment.
The steel of the case is thicker than most. Another neat thing...unless you like modding cases...then it's just that much harder to cut through it...but with the right tools anything is possible.
And it has a super durable finish...which is way better than the usual paint used by most case makers...unless you like to mod cases...then it's three times harder to strip to bare steel.
In short the 800D is an awesome case...and an awesome challenge to mod without screwing it up. The more engineered the box the better it suits it's designed purpose...and the more challenging it becomes to re-engineer it to a new purpose.
Enough of this prologue stuff...the rest of this thread will be videos and pictures of what I am doing to it.
Enjoy
