vDroop?

Thread Starter 
I set my voltage in BIOS to 1.35. Disabled speed step, spread spectrum, and c1e. CPUz says my voltage is 1.24, is this what you call vdroop?

There is no CPU load and I also have Load Line Calibration on.

That's called vDrop. Vdroop is when the voltage droops under full load.

It's an intentional design by Intel to help protect the CPU from the dangerous micro voltage spikes that would otherwise occur when the load changes (either from idle to load, or from load to idle).

The spikes still occur, but vDroop makes it impossible for the spikes to reach dangerous levels.

Ohh so would this explain how while running stock at idle I stay around 1.21v and it drops to 1.18v when I run Prime95 or LinX?

Well in BIOS i have it set at 1.35. No load it's at 1.23 or so. On load it's at 1.26. This is not the 1.35v I've specified in BIOS. So is this why I can't overclock some reason? Should I put it at 1.45v to get ~1.35?

Nevermind I checked with no load it was also 1.26.

The idle voltage in Windows is the result of vDrop. The voltage while under load in Windows is the result of vDroop. Both of these are normal and they're by design.

Additionally, the voltage you see in CPU-Z (that is, in Windows) is the actual voltage that is running through the CPU's cores.

So you are right: you have to compensate for vDrop and vDroop. Experiment until you see the voltage that you want to see while the CPU is under load.

Okay this helps, so basically in BIOS I need to set it a bit higher to get the voltage higher than 1.35 to get 1.35 If this helps I'll love you.

It will help. It's normal. This is just how it is. You just have to experiment a little until you see CPU-Z reporting the voltage you want.
