That is incorrect.Any crossfire SLI set-up only uses the VRAM of one card.So with a normal GTX 580/590 multiple monitor set-ups become VRAM limited at high resolutions. The 3GB cards were made to correct this. You still only have 3GB's of VRAM with dual or even tri-SLi.That is why the AMD cards had a slight edge in this particular comparison, the 2GB vs 1.5GB VRAM.Either one will work fine.I would rec. deciding on the rest of your build-then add the best GPU option when you figure how much you want to spend initially.

And by looking 2 580's will cost me almost as much as to 6990s' anyhow. Well cool. After 4 pages we have come to a conclusion i believe. Now we can work not he rest of this beast lol.

I would like to go a black an blue route for the rig but not opposed to red an black if the blue options aren't there.

So which version/brand whatever of the 6990 do i want. then lets see what the color options are.

I assume i want an i7 Z68 motherboard?

so what did i say wrong...i know the textures r copied to both the card vram identically....and the vram is not directly addeed...but still hd6990 still has the edge here...
if gtx 590 would have had 6gb vram then there would have been no reason to debate...but as it happens it does not so the 2nd best solution is hd6990....

Here's an idea of what you might do

I included the case because I figured it would easy to just use the motherboard tray to mount inside your desk

This is just an example, but you add whatever GPU's you choose.Once you get that settled I would post your build in the watercooling section for rec. on a custom water-loop.

Im gonna use a 6990.

probably a maximus extreme mother board

i7 2600k

Either 16 or 8 gb of ram

fatality sound card.

SSD

at least 1tb HD

just a standard dvd drive. i buy all my movies off iTunes anyhow

guess the Wattage will come with the final decision of water-cooling an all.

Funny question. but how much of a boost will this give my electricity bill?
