Is EA ruining the PC gaming market, or helping?

Thread Starter
I'm just curious what you guys think, since Crysis 2 was pulled from Steam, and Battlefield 3 being announced that it will also not be on steam. This is all of course most likely because of their own download service Origin. Valve has a good track record by playing well with others, so are they to blame in EA exploring other options? Is this kind of competition a good thing ( which it generally is )?

My own thoughts are that I'm pretty disappointed. I really wanted to purchase Crysis 2, but was going to buy it after it was pulled from Steam. I really like having all my games in one spot with a great program to easily connect with everybody. I really have no interest in origin, and honestly I have not purchased Crysis 2 because I really want it on Steam.

How do you guys feel ?

The start of the fall of Digital Distribution for full release games.
I would say that in the long run, they are helping. The open minded gamers won't care while the more stubborn brats will complain.

Its competition, competition is good for business.

Its the matter of people need to grow up and realize STEAM isn't only thing out there and Origin is here to stay. It's honestly not to shabby.

But its not ruining nothing.

Its just a bunch of fanboys who want all their games on one list. Just WOW, your gonna avoid a great game like BF3 because your such a little kid you only want STEAM and think EA is the devil. So what everything is on STEAM, you can't afford Origin installed as well? Just turn off the friends list crap, disable overlay, just crying. It's really sad. Change is good, take some risk people.

I have no problem with this; as shown here;

Everytime I see EA acting I ask myself why all people think that Activion is the devil of the gaming industry. EA is buying every studio they can get and I've not seen a single one of them doing better since they are in charge. They try to get the monopoly in PC gaming harder than everyone else. They use shady tactics to harm the market by reducing all the competition they can and the new Steam affair. On the contrary(just as an example), what is Activision doing to harm you other than pulling out their crappy CoD games once a year about what you can't care less?

When it comes down to it, it's quite annoying when you need to have so many damned portals installed on your PC to play various games like Steam, Ubisofts portal, Origin, GPGNet, Battle.net and so on.

It's just getting f'n annoying to be honest. I think alot of people liked Steam because it helped consolidate everything in one place.

Cause Activision makes all the bad decisions.
They have killed countless developers. They are anti-innovation. The list goes on.

Here is what I see in the future, and what EA could be potentially doing to the market.

If this becomes successful, then every major publisher could at one point have their own distribution system, each with their own proprietary software and individual DRMs.

This could be a huge issue, I hope this doesn't become the mainstay for PC gaming. Just my 2 cents.

It's not the same kind of competition though. For example, if BF3 or C2 is only available on Origin, how does Steam compete? Simply put, they don't.

Don't get me wrong, I have installed Origin and have about 6 games or so installed through it, but I think you might get my point.
