K, first off wanted to say hi old friend!!!

Now to the meat and potatoes, after reading this

"As you can see majority of the kits I have mentioned are either 1.5v or below, that's not to say that a 1.65v kits won't work, but that is the highest you should really be running these RAMS for 24/7 anyway. General consensus is lower voltage is always better, however, 1.65v WILL work if you ALREADY have it. Dopamin3 recently, bought this next bit of info to my attention (big thanks):

Just to correct the original post in this thread, the VCCIO voltage does not have to be within .05v of the DRAM voltage as TwoCables pointed out. This was only a limitation for the X58 platform (well 1366 CPUs really) and not present in Sandy Bridge.

Sandy Bridge does not require there to be a maximum of 0.5v between the VDIMM value and the VCCIO and VCCSA values when 1.65v voltage modules are used.

If you have a 1.65v keep it and use it with sandy, if you want to buy a new kit, any of the ones mentioned above for your particular usage will suffice. biggrin.gif"

I am beginning to think that i am being held back by my RAM, the max OC for my chip with this RAM seems to be 5.1ghz with the settings of BCLK 105, multi 49 and 1.605v, this is 3DM11 stable (for benching) lol more than likely not prime stable at all but it has worked time and time again in 3DM11. I can tell my chip wants to do 5.2ghz but no matter how much voltage i throw at her she just wont do it, for the most part i am able to get to the fated "Windows is Loading" screen and i either stay stuck there forever or it acts like it is loading windows but the screen just goes black after the "Windows is Loading" screen.

I am guessing that with a pair of 2000+ mhz + RAM i would be able to get my chip to run at 5.2ghz ? If so i would be able to break some new personal records in 3dm11...

Just want to know what you think old friend, and please anyone else please feel free to chime in!!!

As for the voltage i have thrown at this chip, it is no worry to me, im trying to get as much use out of her as possible before i make the jump to ivy bridge, so spare me your "thats too much voltage" garbage in advance smile.gifsmile.gif , this chip will more than likely go on the wall framed since i have learned so much with her !!!

EDIT: Probably should have stated the RAM i have is Patriot Viper Extreme 1600mhz, i have 16gb, its rated at 1.65v.

Hey bud, how are you doing? Long time time no chat, hope you are well.thumb.gif

Ummmm if you're looking to go higher, then I would first find the max multi of the chip obviously using the voltage you're comfortable with. What I usually do is set the vcore to around 1.6/1.65v and continue increasing the multi until it loads the desktop. After finding the max multi I try I drop it to stock and find the max BCLK for the board. Probably around 107/108 but obviously that is reduced when you increase the multi. Set your max multi then increase the BCLK slowly. If you get a kit that has overclocking headroom then what you would usually do is reduce the multi by one from your max multi and increase the BCLK so you get the same core speed as you would with the multi but the bus speed will be slightly higher thus increasing DRAM frequency.

Bencher's don't really use 16gb of ram to bench, usually it's 4gb or lower. Try with two sticks smile.gif

Couple questions:

What's the max vcore you're using?
What's the max DRAM voltage you're using?
What are the stock settings for the RAM?

Ok, this part is a bit tricky and some might say not good enough BUT i haven't had ANY bsod whatsoever...

I use IBT with AVX, i do 1 run of MAXIMUM(max ram) test and if it passes, it is stable, if not you'll counter BSODs, IBT crashing, other programs crashing,...etc. If you pass that you are good to go, other than that, if you have good cooling you can try 2 runs but in my own experience, 1 run of Max ram IBT with AVX is good enough. And i use my pc 12+ hours a day, so without a single BSOD is a good indicator...
