Best SATA 6.0Gbps SSD.

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a new SSD. It must be SATA 6.0. I'm looking at the Intel 510 series, Crucial C300/M4, and the Vertex 3/ Max IOPS. What are the difference between these five drives. What is the best drive. I'm looking for something fast but reliable as well with roughly 120GB of space.
Well the most reliable drives are the M4 and the Intel 510. The fastest is the Max iops OCZ. People are fed up with sandforce now though so I would get the M4 or the 510 whichever is cheaper.

What controller is crucial using?

I would recommend a Corsair Force GT. It is comparable in price to the Vertex and benchmarks very well.

The Patriot Wildfire line is also very nice.

I have the Plextor 128GB version but have been having problems with it causing freezes. There is no firmware yet that fixes the issue for those who are experiencing that problem. The same problem as the Vertex 3 drives.

Both those drives use the Sandforce 22xx controller and should not be recommended.

Crucial is using the Marvell controller same as the c300.

Obviously Marvell knows something Sandforce doesn't since OCZ keeps saying it's Intel's fault their drives have problems with Sata 3 yet Marvell does not.

I know it certainly isn't the fastest but I've been using a Crucial C300 that has been doing rather nicely. Reads are around 350 MB/s and writes are around 75 MB/s. I'm sure you can find other ones that are much faster.

Yea the M4 has faster writes and about the same price.

Marvell are used in M4/C300 and sandforce 2281 in MAX Iops. You will probably think "ah marvell is crap" but you must be thinking marvell sata controllers there. I am more than happy with mine. Its connected to intel sata controller port instead of marvell i got available and it works like a dream.
