In the living room which is empty except for an old couch that's going to be thrown out, and a bookcase.

I have no garage, and the back porch is smaller than the workspace I have inside. Plus I've already explained about the heat. But yeah, it is kind of awkward I will admit. Going to take days to clean up all the sawdust that flew around the living room. It'll be worth it though.

Update coming later tonight (probably) Going to be installing the snazzy new drawer pulls I got a few days ago.

Ok so three things updating today. Well.. two and a half.

Started gluing the veneered-cut solid oak to the desktop. Since I don't own 7' clamps (do they even make 7' clamps lol?) I had to figure out a way to be able to clamp the veneer to the side edge of the desktop. Scrap plywood to the rescue again. I clamped it down to the desktop, then clamped in the opposite direction.

I had all clamps tightened to their maximum ability. the wood was creaking like it was about to explode lol. The extreme forces pulling the scrap plywood in two directions. It worked though.

The scrap left over from the 4x8 sheet used to cut the desk top helped to clamp the veneer length-wise:

Now onto the drawer pulls.

After not liking the selection offered by Home Depot, I spent hours online looking for ones I liked. I found these 6" oil-rubbed brass pulls I loved. I think they fit the color of the stain quite well.

I was pretty nervous about drilling into the drawers. They obviously had to be perfectly centered lengthwise and width..wise.. I only had one shot to get it right, otherwise the drawers would basically be ruined. So it was measure 50 times.. cut once in this case for me.

It came out PERFECT! And that's the first time I can say that about something in this project lol. That's a huge weight off my shoulders.

So as I was putting the 3rd arm-r-seal coat on the two cabinets, I clumsily kicked over the tupperware container I was keeping the poly in. I ended up losing about 3/4 of a quart (nearly the entire thing). Good thing a day before I ordered a gallon of the stuff on Amazon. Too bad it's not getting here sometime between the 26th and 30th. So I have to wait to add the final 2-3 coats on the cabinets. I haven't even added coat 1 to the drawers either - I was waiting to attach the pulls before I did. So now I have to wait for UPS so I can continue finishing.

Picture of fail (you can't see much I have towels soaking it up):

Oh, one last thing before I forget. I ordered the plexiglass for the desktop. I chose to go with the abrasion resistant flavor rather than the standard stuff. It wasn't that much more expensive. Shipping ended up costing more than the plexi!!

Well Sunday was my birthday, so I just sat around like a bum and watched football

Couldn't really do much since I was waiting on the gallon of arm-r-seal (got in mail today). Also waiting on the plexiglass so I can get the correct depth for the support wood in the hole.

Stained the removable shelf and keyboard tray (drying):

I don't have enough room in this house. I would start to poly the drawers but I ran out of room. Have to wait for the stained stuff to dry.

Finished the edging on the desktop. Well the gluing part anyway. I still need to sand down the edges so they're flush.

So all I have left on the desktop is finish squaring the cut out hole, glue in the 1/4" thin wood strips to the inner edges of the hole to support the plexi, prep sand, then finishing can begin.

I ended up grinding off the black paint on the legs of the keyboard tray. Now what's left is bare steel. I'm not too sure what to do. I tested the look of it inbetween the two cabinets. It contrasts pretty obviously.

Since paint is not an option, I thought about maybe putting a strip of black duct tape along the edges that would show, so it could at least blend in with the color of the desk. I'm going to test it out tomorrow. If that doesn't work.. I don't think I have any other choice but to leave it bare (although I kind of didn't want to because of eventual oxidation).

I should rename this project: Not another TJ07 lol jk

Thanks. Yeah.. the only problem I see is that it's already a tight fit now for the sliding bar dealy to go up the legs. Two coats of paint made it too thick and caused it to get scratched up badly. I'm going to eat some pizza for breakfast and give it a shot though.

Pics worked for me
