Would spray paint work on the metal? At least that way you could get it to somewhat match.

i mean idk how much thicker duct tape would be than 2 coats of paint, i just think duct tape is more durable to wear and tear of the desk

It was spray painted lol, that's what I just stripped off the legs. Any sort of paint gets scraped by the keyboard tray plates as they slide up and down the legs.

I just tried the duct tape, and it barely fits. @chinesethunda: apparently duct tape is much thicker than 2 coats of paint lol. The legs of the frame are 1" x 1", and the outer sliding part is 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" so there is VERY little room for material to fit between the two. It doesn't help that the legs aren't 100% 90 degrees, so the sliding tubes scrape the legs a bit.

The back right leg is crooked by quite a bit. I'm pretty anxious about bending it straight, as I've mentioned before when the thing was originally welded, I was bending the legs and snapped one off. And my step dad lives 25 miles away (he has the welder).

Minor update.

Added a second coat of stain to the two pieces I did yesterday, so I'm waiting on them to dry, then poly-ing begins (again).

Plexi came in last night. They cut it right on the money. I needed to sand it down a bit. I probably will need to sand it some more if I edge band or wood putty the small exposed 1/4" sliver of plywood edge in the cut out hole.

Image00191.jpg

Trying to get the exact height I want. I don't want it to sit perfectly flush with the top, more like 1/32' or 1/16" just below it.

Image00192.jpg

Got the pine lattice cut to size, and sanded down a bit:

Another test fit:

The gluing begins:

New keyboard should be here tomorrow. My PoS rubber dome keyboard wouldn't suit the desk very well smile.gif Also going to Best Buy when they open up to try the Deathadder and Abyssus (if they carry it in store). I need a new gaming mouse.

The deathadder would be a great choice! I got mine over a year ago and it is so comfortable and has taken SERIOUS travel abuse/throwing into walls and is still in great shape! Really well built for a Razer product haha

This makes me want to make a wooden table with black paint finish, and a glass top right below where your keyboard sits and you can see your rig right below it. And then hav the 3 sides, not towards me oviously LOL, exhaust/intake air for ventilation. with white LEDs and everything. Will totally do it, if I had the place and materials to make one frown.gif

Why no flush plexi? First piece of paper to slide over that is going to drive you nuts trying to get it out
post #119 of 157
lol i think it can prevent some scratching of the plexi idk

Yeah I just pulled the trigger on the DA BE. I hope I like it. I was debating between it, the Abyssus and CM Spawn. Although I may give the Xornet a shot when it's released.

I bought a Noppoo Choc Mini, it should be here later today smile.gif I tested the duct tape on one leg. It seems to work OK. I'll know more when I slap it on all 4 legs.

You mean something like:
http://images02.olx.com/ui/11/06/20/1306764906_211140620_3-Custom-Built-Desk-with-high-End-PC-built-Computers-Hardware.jpg

I would have gone bananas on this project if I had the budget for it. Solid wood instead of plywood, would have had a metal fabricator make the keyboard tray professionally, had all the wood milled somewhere etc.

Well mostly because I don't trust the 1/8" plexi to stay 100% flat without flexing over time. The sliver gap from the top gives some leeway for it to move a tiny bit. Otherwise the edges of the plexi would be exposed above the desk surface.

I don't plan on having any paper or anything on the left side of the desktop besides a speaker.

I think all of this poly is braining my damage. I have 4 windows open in the house, but it's still a bear to hover over it all while doing it. One coat for 4 pieces including the 4th coat on the left cabinet took like 30 minutes. Thank god I only have 1 more coat left to do on the cabinet, and two on the drawer cabinet. I think I'm only going to do one coat inside the drawers. It will get too tedious to do more, and I need this damn project to be finished, I'm sick of not having a desk and my computer is sick of sitting out in the open on top of an empty printer box. rolleyes.gif
