How long will my current rig last?

Thread Starter
I've had this for about 2 years and upgraded my gpu a year ago. How long can this rig last me while still being able to game smoothly? I see the gtx 580 dropped in price. Is it worth going for? I got a $600 budget.

I honestly don't think you need any more RAM, u don't need anymore than 4gb, so your good there. If you really want to upgrade I'd go for an SSD, if ur bent on an upgrade for ur gpu get 2 560 ti's

lol typical ocn responder....OP is new here, always take responses with a grain of salt, there are a lot of random noobs, don't take bad advice.

You don't need more ram, that computer is more then fine and will last you a long time if you want it to.

I would suggest waiting until the next generation of gpu's to make your move, cayman islands (amd) will be out at the end of the year and Kepler (nvidia) will be out Q1 2012.

The only other thing that I would recommend is an SSD, that will notably improve your performance. I recommend the crucial m4. Having a green drive as a boot drive is a terrible idea, they cycle on and off so it makes for slower loads and much longer spin up times. They work decently for a storage drive though.

That'd be more of a sidegrade really. I don't think there's any dual card setup that's really worth upgrading to from SLI 470s @ 1080p atm.

There's no way to say what kind of demands next gen games will bring, but IMO you can ride that setup for years assuming you don't upgrade to a higher res screen.

That system is very solid man.

Just get an SSD and call it a day for another year.

You have a really nice rig, few games will come out in the next year or so that will not run max on a 470. The CPU will go strong for a pretty long time though. Look at me, I will be using this Q6600 with a 6950 2gb soon and DDR2 ram.

I mean when you say you want to upgrade, why? Is there a game that's not running well on your system? If not then there really is no point. You upgrade when you need too.

What I recommend is buying a new mech keyboard, mouse, mouse pad or something along that lines that will improve your overall experience. You have a great system, buying better accessories will help you enjoy it all the more.
