Personally, I like my G500 because I can use it on lots of surfaces like my glass desk. I'm not sure if you can use a trackball on a glass desk, as I've never really tried the new ones. So I too, would be interested in this topic.

trackballs are ones with ball on top of the mouse, not bottom. you can use it anywhere.

they are not the same with old ball mouse

Because they are not accurate enough

If you just play casually and don't care about being competitive, then use whatever works for you. That said, a trackball user is going to be destroyed by a regular mouse user of equal or greater skill.

I play competitive and do just fine everyone thinks they are gonna own me because I use a trackball but when it comes down to it im faster with movements hands down. I barely move my thumb to get the same effect as someone with a mouse moving it a half inch across the pad

For those interested, here's what the M570 looks like (I use one, too)...

I do not game competitively, though. It is true that response time/DPI is lower with a trackball vs. a high end gaming mouse. However, vs. a regular mouse the trackball could possibly have an advantage because of the smaller range of movement required. As the OP mentioned, a tiny thumb movement is equivalent to a large hand movement (depending on what sensitivity you have set).

In the end, just use whatever you like best.

Also with the M570 you can download logitech setpoint and adjust settings to make it respond like a gaming mouse. It is true just plugging it in out of the box it wont be near as good as a high end gaming mouse but with that program it can hold its own along side them
