Intel Q6600 @ 2.4GHz 63C Idle?, Help

Thread Starter
Okay so inside my second pc, I have a Q6600 G0 at stock clocks 2.4Ghz, with the stock Intel cooler.

The stock coolers idle fan speed is around 1100RPM, and I have replaced the thermal paste yesterday with some 'Cooler Master High Performance Thermal Compound'.

On Idle temps the Q6600 stays in the 50+C range. The max I have seen it go is 63c on Idle. I definitely don't want to find out the load temps right now on the stock cooler.

If I want to game on the Q6600 I have to set the fan to 100% which is loud as crap!, and the fan runs around 3800RPM.

Any suggestions or advice is helpful toward my issue, does anyone here have any idea how I can fix this?

One other question, is it possible due to the age of my Q6600 (around 4years) that it has just become less efficient and struggles to cool properly?

That idle temp is way too high. I have one in my dad's computer and it idles in the 30's. Did you push the heatsink push pins all the way?

The usual amount around slightly smaller than a pea size drop in the centre and heatsink installed on top. I did the same with my 1090T and that's running fine.

What motherboard is it in? Check to make sure that it is not receiving a high CPU voltage for some reason.

That voltage is fine. Hmm... I would try resetting the cooler on it. But this time rotate it 90 degrees and see if it helps. Maybe contact is not smooth. Small possibility but possible. Try a different TIM if you have it too.

Pea sized is way too big, go for rice grain sized
Too much TIM will destroy your temps

try reseating the cooler with a better paste like AS-5 or OCZ Freeze after removing the older paste completely by using alcohol

or its better to buy a new cooler like Hyper 212+ if you like
