Switching GPU1 and GPU2

Thread Starter
So Windows reads my 8800GTS as GPU1 and my MSI 560 Ti as GPU2.

How can I switch these? I don't like my PhysX card being the proprietary card. Thanks!

Check in the Nvidia Control Panel.

There might be an option there. Also make sure the 560 Ti is in the top most PCI-e slot on the motherboard.

I would be interested to know this matter too.
Currently my main card (GTX570) is seen as GPU2 while my secondary card (GTX285) is GPU1. (I call it 'secondary' and not 'Physx' because it works not just as a Physx card but also is connected to a secondary display so that my GTX570 can downclock when idling.)

My main GTX570 is installed in the first PCIE_x16 slot.
And, I have it installed first into the system. The GTX285 was installed at a later date. Yet, somehow the GTX285 is recognized as GPU1.
Other than this annoying minor issue, everything else works fine.

yep!

the 560 Ti is install on the top most and only 16x slot

the 8800GTS is on the bottom most and only 4x or 8x (not sure)

honestly, nothing is wrong except it's a minor annoyance to see it as the 8800GTS > 560 Ti

maybe installing the 560 Ti first then the 8800GTS afterwards would fix this?

i'll try and report back after I get my 2nd F3 and Raid. woot woot!

This sequence of installation was what I did in the first place with my 2 cards.
It did not solve the issue.frown.gif

Perhaps you will have some luck. Report back if you have success.

no... i hope it fixes it.

another problem i have is, both cards run at 100% fan speed until booting to windows.

seriously, seems like there are way too many problem to even use a physx card.

btw neither card did that when used by itself.

When a PC is booting up, graphics card driver is only loaded at a later stage of this process. Until then, Windows (and BIOS) is designed to send full juice to all fans (system fans and graphic card fan) as they need higher power to overcome the inertia to spin up. So, it is normal to see 100% fan speed during startup.
And so, I find 'neither card did that when used by itself' in your sytem rather strange.confused.gif

Anyway, if you are neither connecting a 2nd monitor nor playing a Physx game nor folding, perhaps you just take the card out. Install it back only take a few minutes, when you have an actual use of it.

well. i know for a fact that the 560 Ti did not run at 100% at startup.

the 8800GTS ran at 100% until boot screen then the fans speed went to default 40%.

right now, i think both cards run at 100% when booting. i'm going to take out the 8800GTS and see if that changes anything.

so i turned on the pc with just the 560 Ti and it turns on beautifully in silence.

with the 8800GTS, thing starts like a lawnmower. is the 8800GTS really worth it for physx?
