Help reading correct i7 920 CPU Temps from EVGA MB

Thread Starter
To the exact date of this post 2 years ago I ordered parts for a new PC I was building with plans to overclock it when the time comes. The key parts related to my question

LIAN LI PC-A05NB
EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR Motherboard
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB DDR3
ZALMAN CNPS10X Extreme
Intel Core i7-920

looking into overclocking this system but before doing so I took the case apart and added a top exhaust and bottom intake.. I also removed the old paste off the HS and applied AS5.

I’ve never read the CPU temps before but after putting the system together I’m trying to read my current CPU temps PRE-Overclocking so I have base numbers to compare with other benchmarks on the net, however after using multiple tools to read my current temps I’m confused as each program reports different values.. I’ve Attached Screen Shot with SpeedFan, HWiNFO, HWMonitor… Looking for help reading these numbers as there are multiple CPU temps in different areas and which is my real CPU temp!

Thank You.

PS My case is just sitting on its side wide open and none of the fans except the HS Fan are hooked up yet. Just trying to make sure the HS install and Thermal paste were applied properly before I connect everthing!

I'll probably be biased...

I don't use any of the above you posted for reading temperatures since they're too bloated for reading the only main thing I need to know...CPU temperatures. These are what I use to monitor...

Real Temp
Core Temp

Both of which show very similar temperatures when using both. From my experience...I trust both of them with taking my i7 920 to 4.3GHz. If you want some additional info on voltages then I'd use EVGA E-LEET Tuning Utility which also shows temperatures...however the readings from it seem to be 2-3 degrees higher idle and 2-3 degrees lower load than Core Temp / Real Temp. If you find that the above temperature monitors I provided show similar temperatures to any of the ones you posted above then I'd trust that one the most if you want to continue to use it.

Last thing I'd like to add...if you find that your temperatures are remotely close to mine (45-50C Idle / 85-90C Load) then you better double check your thermal paste application, mounting, and case airflow since that isn't normal .

Actually I'm not running on a stock fan, Have a ZALMAN CNPS10X Extreme and based on those CORE temps at IDLE speed without yet over clocking and room temp 23c I think I need to find out why they are SO high!!! most reviews of the HS I have it have it MUCH lower!! Maybe my AS5 is too old!!

Just as an update.. I ended up giving up on the HS and purchased a Thermalright Silver Arrow... The mounting for the fan I had was a pain not done right!! I'm not done with my setup but initial testing had be with the temps I had been looking for!! 10c min below my other temps with the other HS.
