GTX 280 SLI or 9600gt

Thread Starter
Hi,
My friend has 2 GTX 280's that have MB of on-board memory and I was just curious as to Wether or not these 2 GFX cards would outperform the 9600gt?
Yes by far the 9600gt is a couple of years old if im correct whereas the 280's are still somewhat new

But the 280 is only 512mb onboard (So he says) when the 9800gt has 1gb and knowing most games now hit 1GB?
Here's the order of graphics cards from Nvidia (recent ones)
8xxx series
9xxx series
GT2xx series
GTS 2xx series
GTX 2xx series
(same with 4xx and 5xx series)

You're looking at a single mid range 9xxx series card, to 2 high end GTX 280's. Or one mid range 9xxx to one high end GTX 280.

The GTX 2xx line up will walk ALL OVER the 9xxx series.

EDIT:
The GTX280 is a 1GB card. And the amount of memory means very little unless you are comparing similar cards (like a GTX 460 vs a GTX 460 1GB).

That is NOT a GTX280. Your friend is lying or uninformed.

This is a GTX280:

And that's as early as it gets, that's an Nvidia branded, reference card.
