First of All i want to thank you for Creating this kind of forum to help noobs on overclocking. smile.gif

Now guys i need help on Overlclocking my AMD Athlon II X4 640 to 3.5GHZ or Even 4.0GHZ if its safe. I really need step by step Instructions to do it cause im completely a noob on overclocking i dont know how to set the etc. But if i got instructions i can do it without hassle.Anyway on BIOS i got a strang setting called justw00t! not sure what is it but it got overclocking settings but i dont know how to set it.

And i see some posts about unlocking L3 Cache is it possible on mine?

This is my Complete Specs

AMD Athlon II X4 640
8GB Ram DD3
Nvidia GeForce 210 1GB (Palit)
Emaxx Mobo (EMX-MCP61D3-iCafe)

Hello, and welcome to OCN! Please visit your User CP and add your system into your sig rig (or just click here). This will help us to help you in the future, so we can always see what your machine consists of.

To answer a few of your questions:
1) No, your Athlon II x4 640 will very likely NOT unlock the L3 cache. It's a C3 revision native Propus core processor. The only ones that are capable of the unlock were early 620's and 630's, because they hadn't made the actual Propus core yet (along with some of the X2's and X3's).

2) I'm not entirely sure about your motherboard's capabilities on overclocking. If its a really cheap one, they tend to have a low VRM count. A low VRM count will lead to a failure upon overclocking, or running a high TDP processor (like the x6's or 125w x4's).

If you would still like to run the risk of trying to overclock it (I would suggest a better board first honestly, then there'd be NO risk), then you can start by reading the guides here at OCN. Here's a link to the AMD section guides and essentials threads. smile.gif

Hope that helps some.

Thank you for the Reply Really. I already put the profile Anyways.

My Question to your answers.
1. So there's no way to unlock L3 Cache.

2. To be honest i dont really understand your answer im really a noob at this. But yeah i would take the risk to overclock it since i got the settings on my bios justw00t! with all overclocking preferences there but i dont know what to input or put there.

I would take the risk.

No, there's definitely no way to unlock the L3 cache on the 640. Let me try to find some images and documentation on your board, and see what I can come up with.

In the meantime, I'd suggest reading up on the subject so you can learn the terms at the very least. I linked above to you, the AMD Overclocking Essentials threads. That should be enough to overwhelm you for a few days. tongue.gif

After looking up your motherboard, I would strongly suggest you take it easy on it. It's an unknown company with a 3+1 phase VRM setup. 3+1 phase can only handle a 95w CPU at most. You've already got 95w with your CPU at stock speeds.

You can try bumping your reference clock up slowly and testing stability each time (also known as FSB or HTT). 210 x 15 is 3.15GHz. 220 x 15 is 3.3GHz. So on, and so forth. I expect you should be able to reach around 3.3-3.4GHz or so on the stock cooler, stock voltage, and with that motherboard. You will DEFINITELY want to keep voltage alone. Keep your NB multiplier at 10x. Put your HT Link multiplier to 9x. And set your RAM to the closest to its normal speed as possible.

You would need to use the BIOS to do so. As to where its at, I honestly don't know, as I've never used that brand motherboard before. Never even heard of it before.

If its more game performance you're after though, I'd suggest you look into a faster graphics card and possibly a new power supply (depends on what your current PSU is).
