Suitable gaming replacement for Das S Professional

I've had a Das Professional for quite a while now, and it's a great keyboard. Unfortunately, as usually happens with me, I've become somewhat bored with it - and the keyboard in my office finally gave out, so I'm looking to move the Das in there and pick up a new keyboard to game on.

I love the feel of the keys on the Das but it never quite felt like the most suitable gaming performance for me, I loved it for typing, but that's maybe 5% of what I do on this computer. I do know I want a mechanical keyboard as I can't even use the membrane keyboards I have at the house anymore without cringing.

Looking at the keyboard guide, it appears cherry blacks would be best for this purchase. My other requirements are as follows:

- full NKRO support\
o real notable issues (blackwidow is out)
- At least minimal media support, similar to what the das has would be fine
- can't look like it belongs on Bill Gate's desk when he was plotting to steal from IBM
- Backlighting would be nice, but it's not a dealbreaker
- Price is also a consideration... I don't really have a specific price range but I would like to kee pit as cheap as possible

I'm currently looking at the 6GV2 as my frontrunner, but I won't be buying in time to use the discount code currently going on the SS site, so thta may change. I've also looked at the Zowie Celeritas, and I'm interested in the Mionix and qpad models. The only one of those that I know is well adopted is the 6GV2, which should be a solid choice - but does anyone here have experience with the others? Specifically if they have NKRO functionality or not is a big deal for me, I don't need to be able to hit all the keys at one time but I need to be asbolutely sure I'm not gonna have a problem hitting 5-6 keys with absolutely zero issues.

Other suggestions are of course welcome as well.

Honestly while reading your post my first inclination was to suggest the 6gv2. It's a high quality keyboard and dirt cheap right now. Turns out it's your frontrunner, so I second your instinct.

Sure you could pick up a Filco with blacks, but you'll be missing media keys and you'll pay a lot more.

I remember trying a keyboard with linear keys (like the blacks) once and just remember how completely alien and terrible it felt to me.

After requiring some sort of bump for so long I can't use this key at all, it surprises me that they recommend it for gaming.

The blue/ white alp is also terrible due to the fact that I bottom out soo much while gaming.

That's how I'm thinking about the purchase, too. A Filco is probably a bit higher quality, but it's $30-$40 more at a minimum and it lacks certain things I would like. I'm not worried about the build quality of most mech. keyboards, so as long as I am getting the switches I want and the right features, I'm happy.

Now, the one thing I do enjoy is backlighting for my keyboards, but the Mionix keyboard is just too much, the Xarmor uses cherry blues, the Razer doesn't support nkro, and I can't even find the Qpad model. Is there a quality backlit keyboard with cherry blacks that won't cost me my first born child? Maybe the Ducky Shine, but I don't see pricing there?

or the 6GV2

I plan on buying a Ducky as my second keyboard. Probably one with blues or browns. Currently using my Filco with MX blues.

I'm looking into the Ducky Shine as an alternative. My das works fine, and I have a spare keyboard for the other computer for now, so I'm planning to take my time and make a well informed decision. I still have my das for the time being on the gaming computer, which has served me quite well for the last 2 or so years.

I'm not sure the Ducky with black switches is worth $20-$40 more than the 6GV2, but I don't know enough about the Ducky brand. If the Shine is priced right, having the backlighting would be enough incentive for me to pay more. I usually game in a very dark environment, and the backlighting would help in that regard.

Also, just to explore a cheaper alternative: I've heard a lot about the Sidewinder x4 and x6 lately. The x6 in particular is rather intriguing with the tenkey being able to move to either side and also functioning as a macro pad. While I can't stand to type on a dome keyboard anymore since buying the Das, I don't think I'd notice too much of a difference gaming, and that would be the primary purpose. It seems as though most people are saying the sidewinders are very nice for dome keyboards - can anyone here compare how those feel with something like the original saitek eclipse keyboards, and the like?

With the economy not being amazing, I might have to just go cheaper... I used to game fine on the eclipse, but I despised the keys on the g15, so it's a slippery slope. If the sidewinder keyboards have a decent feel to them, one of those might work for half the price of a mechanical for me, and I'd get my backlighting.

The Ducky shine seems like it will be a good value, and have the blacks your looking for. I also recommend blacks for gaming.
