AMD Phenom II X4 955 OC HELP! - Page 2

THIS WILL WORK PROVIDED YOU CAN "LOWER" the multiplier...

Okay, to answer your question... it depends on DRAM speed and mobo power supply and cooling and all that.

IF it's a none BE version (never seen one), then it probably doesn't matter.

Set Cool & Quiet OFF/DISABLED
Set C1E OFF/DISABLED

Set OC profile to MANUAL (or whatever)
Set Multiplier to 14
Set Bus Clock to 250

Set DRAM Bus Voltage to either 1.55 or 1.65 depending on your specs. All other DRAM timings to AUTO.

Set CPU/NB Freq to 2500
Set HT to 2000

Set CPU Voltage and NB voltage to AUTO.

Save and boot that sucker...

If it runs fine, use CPU-Z to discover what the Mobo set the CPU voltage to. So long as it is 1.50 or less, you are good to go.

Run it loaded with Prime-95 for an hour...

IF you get errors and the CPU Voltage UNLOADED is less than 1.5, then set it to 1.5.

NOTE the CPU voltage unloaded and fully loaded. Go back in your BIOS and set the CPU voltage to a value equal to the Unloaded Voltage + (Unloaded-Loaded) so long as it is still below 1.5.

If that works well, your OC'ed nicely... I can get my 955 rolling at 4.2GHz 24/7/365 but I have to max my cooling fans and 3 140CFM fans pushing on an RS-360 are noisy!

3.5 is a nice sweet spot with those settings I gave you. Max'es out memory bandwidth and intra-core communication according to SiSoft.

Hope that helps.

PS: If you aren't folding and want it to run cooler, re-enable Cool & Quiet and let it idle down. IF it runs fine a few days and your cooling etc. is up to the task, bump the multiplier back up one tick at a time until it melts.. LOL!

ok next step is a better PSU, maybe 600W. any hope now?

I would get the mosfet heatsinks before I tried any overclocking. They are a cheap investment. I think that you can safely go up alittle. Try 5% increase on your bus and maybe 10% with cpu voltage at 1.45v.

BUT GET THE MOSFET HEATSINKS FIRST.

Hope I wasn't too loud.

You don't need no 600w power supply. (No disrepect to other posters)
Just my opinion.
Are you running crossfire or sli. I don't think so.

My second or back up computer is as follows:
PhenomII x2 555be unlocked to 4 cores @3.6ghz @ 1.475v
Asus ma88td-m

All phenom II 955 are Black edition.

Phenom II 955 non-be does not exist.

Just up your multiplier, and CPU-Z doesnt say if a cpu is BE or not.

Sorry but you should check out CPU World. You WILL find out that there IS a non black edition.
