Can someone explain BIOS to me? - Page 2

You may need to run the utilities DVD that came with your motherboard. If after all else is installed and you have no network connectivity you may need to source your NIC driver off this DVD (or even better yet off the manufactures site, downloaded to a second storage device on a second functioning PC).

EDIT: what was the reason for the RMA on a new motherboard? I know you say "DOA" but could you elaborate?

I had No VGA, no power in vga, cpu red light constant, Never got it to post once and couldnt sync the ram. I tried the psu, gpu and the ram in my friends comp and it worked fine. It was in all the way and such. I did Cmos and other things to try to fix it but no use. Going with an asrock now.

Read the manual it maybe handy if you have no experience changing setting or knowing what things are in there as it briefly explains some of the features.

What does the manual say that this constant red light could possibly mean? perhaps incompatibility with your choice of RAM or some RAM installation issue?

Change your SATA device to mode AHCI also, before you install the OS

Not poking fun, but I honestly think you sent back a perfectly good motherboard. Consider posting an add asking for help from someone local to assist you in configuring your computer. There are a lot of members here, so you have a decent chance of finding someone local that would be willing to stop by and configure your BIOS for some beer

How did I send it perfectly good board back? I tried for days, had multiple people who are good with computers try to figure it out and they couldn't. Do you know what was wrong then, because I sure don't. I sill have the board here, I am sending it in for a refund tomorrow and already bought a different board.

Dude man.Its going too take time and experience too get good at building computers.

Most likely you won't need too configure anything in your bios too install windows. You may have too go in and change your boot order so it boots from your windows cd,that is it.

Too do this, enter your bios on start up by pressing the appropriate key.Go too the drive boot order and change the settings too boot from your cd drive first.Since you are just beginning don't worry about any other bios configuration. Then begin the install process.

When windows re starts the first time(it will re start a few times during the initial installation),during the boot process,go back into your bios and change the drive boot order back too how it was originally(your hard drive first),otherwise it may re start the windows install all over again. From there it should all be straight forward.

If you run into problems then you can come here and someone can help.

Also,if your new board also doesn't work for you, then there must be something you are missing.
