You be preaching to the choir. Intel has made the first jump dropping it to $600.

You need to decide if it's worth it or not. It's definitely worth it to somebody, but to somebody else it's not, like me. By the end of this thread you will likely be right back where you were when you started it.

I personally went with 2600k for the price vs. hex core. However, when Ivy comes out I will very likely be getting it, unless it's like $1500. If that's the case then I will wait until the price drops to ~$500. My 2600k will be fine until then.

You're confusing with the 980x, the I7 980 is a new CPU meant to replace the I7 970.

You mean the i7 980 is replacing the 980x I'd do a bit more research. Easily done by looking at Newegg.

The 990x replaced the 980x and the 980 is replacing the 970.

tight fisted git.

On topic, did we actually find out how much the OP can get the chip for?

Edit: I understand if your loosing money because your rendering stuff on cad for a big company or you need it for something else but seriously.........that i7 950 should last for years
I agree with all Juliancahillane said, except the sentence about F@H useless.
Actually this project has done many interessant discoveries.
