I'm running BL2 at 2560x1440 with a single GTX 670 4GB card and it runs pretty good with most everything maxed (no AA/no AS Filter though) ... I've found that the two disabled bits matter very little at such a high resolution. Also, no ambient occlusion (cause I don't care for it).

However, with PhysX maxed, and especially during co-op, there are moments where I get some bog and framerates which are usually around 100 to 75 can briefly drop down to 35 and 40 ...

So today, as an experiment, I picked up a Zotac GT 640 today from Micro Center to try as a dedicated PhysX card; I have read online of others having perhaps 20% FPS gains using this card and since it's super cheap, I thought what the hell.

So I plug it in today and set it up as the PhysX card and played about an hour of multi player ... and, it works really good. Took all lag/bog instances out of the picture and frame rates stay pegged between 80 and 125fps ... which is pretty dang good at 1440p.

Mostly though, it got rid of those annoying dips to 35 fps here and there (we were playing mostly that arena level, which may or may not be very taxing but I did notice a total improvement in the occasional stutters.

Not sure if I'm going to keep it or not as I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a second GTX 670 4GB card in the next couple weeks but wanted to mention it should anyone want to try it themselves.

Here's the card I got: It's a single slot cause I have a sound card right next to my second vid card slot and the fan is quite noisy so I set it to remain at 30% constantly (near tortally silent) and the card never broke 55C). In fact, I think I'm going to try it passive over the weekend...

...

...

FYI.

Also, if I don't take it back to Micro Center, I might sell it fairly cheap here if anyone is interested. Just PM me and I'll let you k now when and if. Makes a real difference for sure.

I'm going to do some actual measurements with and without the card over the weekend; most folks who have tested the same card as a dedicated PhysX card have seen about a 20% gain in FPS ... which is pretty good I think for 80 to 100 bucks.

Hmmm I just realized I have a 9800gt lying around, how do you guys think it would do for a dedicated physx card with my 670?

I doubt borderlands really needs it but I guess it might be fun to experiment.

Well I gave it a shot, and dropped the 9800gt in for giggles. I turned the graphics all the way up, every setting. and it struggled to drop below 60 fps. actually the processor temp dropped about a good 5 to 10 degrees and it seems to run better. I will head to the caustic caverns soon to really stress it.

I think I will install batman archam city and see what the machine will do. It put my two 560's to their knees before.

I am running a 9800gt right now as a physx card with my HD 7870 in hybrid, runs quite nicely but it does hold ya back in some areas when it getshectic with all the physx stuff.

Thanks for posting the results, I'm always curious about this type of thing.

I've always wanted a dedicated PhysX card as well, but like you, I always end up looking more at SLI. You could always keep SLI and have that as a dedicated 3rd card. thumb.gif

I switched from farming Doc Mercy to farming a Fibber. Got a Fire Fiber. After many hours I never saw an x2 so I think I'll stick with this one. I'm running Zero so I've got some nice pistol mods.

Looked it up in the UK - and it is only around £60 - which is pretty good!
I don't personally think I need it as a dedicated GFX, but I can see how that can be useful - thanks a lot for the info though +rep!

Since I'm going to be buying a second GTX 670 in the next week or two, I will def take it back...

But as a cheap card to plug in and use *ONLY* for PhysX processing, it's very effective. As others have seen (and just in BL2, mind you) ... I've seen about a 20% FPS gain and especially, no more occasional stutters in heavy bombardment, co-op play (all the sparks and fire and clouds and such are all PhysX) ...

Here's a graph a guy did while using a GTX 690 as his main video card. He tested about four other cards as dedicated PhysX cards (along side the main GTX 690) and found that the GTX 650 was (oddly) the winner. The GT 640 improved FPS as well but the GTX 650 beat it (and it beat a GTX 680 as well) ... which is odd.

But not wanting to route power cables, I wanted to just test the GT 640 as it's powered by the PCI Express slot and needs no other power connectors.

Interesting results, though:

...

...

Anyway ...

RE: the second GTX 670 4GB card I'm getting ... I've heard that the new cards this year are only going to be tweaked Kepler and that the entirely new architecture cards will be some time in 2014 ... so without knowing too much about what will be released this year, I figure a second GTX 670 4GB card will be better than going with one of the new cards (refined Kepler) to be released later this year ... any thoughts?

Also, another fun thing I did recently re: BL2 ... I found all the input codes to be used with the Gibbed Save Editor for every item in the game (including all Legendary weaps/mods/shields) ... not that big of a deal but it was really cool spawning them all and looking at them, checking their stats and testing them and what not. I've got a bank vault full of (quite literally) just about every Legendary in the game if anyone is looking for anything specific ...

I'm just gonna pick a "suite" of six to seven each time I play to find out which ones I really dig.
