Which of the following setup is the best?

Thread Starter
1) SSD alone for OS and some essential programs+ two HDDs in raid0 for storage.

2) SSD with junction into the HDD (My current setup)

3) Use SRT for caching with my SSD.

If option 3), how many GB should I partition just for caching? Got about 70s GB left right now.

Thanks

I have two ssd's in raid zero as os drive, and a wd caviar black for storage. This way if i need a program to take avantage of the ssd speed i can install it on the ssd, all other programs that dont need the speed are installed on the wd black to preserve precious ssd space.

Option 1 is the most flexible I think. You can easily add another drive for more storage if needed.

That's what I thought too, but I don't have cash lying around for me to get multiple SSDs yet.

Which type of programs are worthy enough to deserve spots on the SSD? Frequently played/personal fav games?

Question: Why would you RAID0 SSD's when their seek time is essentially zero anyway? That seems unwise to double your failure rate for what amounts to basically no speed boost. Just my pondering, feel free to shoot me down.

Automatically seen as one drive. Perhaps that makes it easier. And he shouldn't care about backups on his OS drive so failure isn't a big deal .

Just my guess, I am also curious.

If you have an SSD, I'd assume your going for performance running the OS, not transfer speeds, which aren't as important. A single SSD and a secondary drive for everything else that's bulky would be my vote.

A 7.2k drive will be fine for games, loading and saving times won't be increased to the point of dedicating a SSD to it.

That rest my case. +rep for the answer, along with thorough explanation.

I originally had purchased a single 40gb ssd and found it big enough for an os drive, but jjust barely. A deal for another came up and included a $60 game I was going to purchase anyways, so I jumped on it and essentially doubled the drive space for $20.

It performs about the same as a single intel 80gb but cost less.

I chose option 1 because it is very close to what works for me.
