Verizon wireless throttling

Thread Starter
Ok, so I am doing a test this month to see how much data I can munch. I have a Verizon wireless unlimited plan and am going to watch movies(netflix) as close to 24/7 as possible on my droid X. I am interested to see what Verizon does once I hit 5GB. I am currently at 2.5GB of data consumption. If anyone knows any more efficient ways to chew through bandwidth, let me know .

upload huge files to every file sharing service you can think of and download them all at once, constantly. there's probably an app for that

I can almost guarantee you that they are not going throttle you even if you surpass the 5GB mark.

So far from what I have seen and heard the only time that verizon actually "throttles" is if you tether and go over 5GB, not only do they throttle you, they will also charge you for the bandwidth if you tether illegally. As long as you use your smartphone to go online to stream and etc they shouldn't throttle you smile.gif

I believe they are only throttling the top 5% of data users. So whatever that threshold may be. Good luck

If you are grandfathered in to an Unlimited Contract then they CAN'T and WILL not throttle you. The only time they throttle anyone is if they have an Air Card and surpass their 5GB or 10GB limit and are continuing to do so. (It's a feature so that they won't have an un-godly huge phone bill with extra charges.)

They usually don't even throttle the data speeds in general, it's only if that person is on a Tiered data plan and exceeds their monthly limit every month.

So really since you have unlimited data, your doing this for no apparent reason (Unless you just really love watching Netflix..) haha.

<-- Been a Verizon Rep going on 2 years in November.

EDIT - And when I say they can't, they really cannot throttle your speeds. Especially if it's coming from a cell phone, that only applies to Air Cards.

ummm, ok Mr. Verizon Rep, they can and will throttle your data if you are part of the top 5% of all data users. it was added last year to their contracts, i know for a fact it is there, if you want i can get my contract i just signed in February and scan it in if you don't believe me.

That is the main reason they went to Tiered data pricing.

Go get your contract, I can email our rep and get more information on that if you would like. But I use roughly 20GB a month on my iPhone 4 and I've never had a throttled speed.

No, I am not on an Employee Plan. I share a plan with my parents and my brother. My step dad also tethers a lot and has never been throttled.

It's MAINLY for Air Cards.
