is this a good temperature for my radeon hd 6870?

Thread Starter
im a bit of a newb in overclocking ^^

i overclocked the mhz by like 20 percent : 900 to 950 mhz

and for memory i set it to 1150 mhz, originally 1050 mhz

when my computer is idle it stays at 58 celcius

i haven't tested how high the temp goes at 100% usage so don't know how high that would be

conner i have a 1080p monitor 1920x1080p

jagz i just put fan speed to automatic. should i use manual fan speed? ill be sure to fill that out :3

It is fine, but how many monitors do you have?

My 6870 idles stock at 47 and that is across a 1080p monitor and 1440x900.

It idles at 39-42 on one monitor. Under full load with crysis I have seen it at 69 at the highest and usually 67ish.

I understand you did overclock, but I do not think my idle temps would be 58c if I had a 950 core clock.

Moved to AMD/ATI
That seems pretty high to me but I haven't dealt with these kind of cards.

Let us know fan speed and estimated ambients, go for it, test it under load. That's where you see if it's going to be good or not really in regards of temps.

Fill out your Sig Rig @ User Control Panel, cause we like seeing that stuff xD

lol don't be shy to post again, This is your thread!

Put it highest you can without hearing it. Should bring you to somewhere around 50%, I think that will be a fair fan speed to test temperatures.

It's idling that high most likely cause it was at 23% or 25% fan speed.

We also don't know what case you have or any other specs, Fill it out
