Mouse to pair with SS 9HD

Thread Starter
Just snagged a 9HD during the weekend sale (Arrives in a few days) and was wondering what you guys would suggest as a mouse to pair with it. I currently have a MX518 but it's aging and I think it's time for an upgrade.

Also, is this mouse pad optimized for optical or laser or does it even matter?

All suggestions are welcome!

It doesn't matter for optical or laser. As for a mouse, I use the deathadder and love it. Most people I've heard that use it love it too. I really like how big it is since I have large hands.

Steelseries Xai? The 4HD and 9HD were made specifically for it.

I'd recommend trying to stay away from pairing it with mice that have LOD issues. While I haven't owned that specific mousepad, I've noticed that even on my Zowie Swift my mice with high-ish LOD (my deathadder, ikari optical) are almost unusable. The Ikari in particular was around a whopping 7 CD when I measured it just for kicks. I've had similar luck on a variety of different hard pads, and while I might be wrong about that one in particular I would be surprised.

A deathadder with the tape fix should work admirably, and any of the Avago 9500-based mice will work quite well on it as well if you aren't susceptible to feeling the slight positive accel that sensor has. Of those, the Xai, Naos 5000, and Qpad 5K are my favorites.

Could you explain what LOD is and CD? These are probably common terms but I'm entirely lost. Also, what's the tape fix for the deathadder you're speaking of?

LOD = Lift Off Distance. Essentially, how high can you lift the mouse before it stops tracking.

In regards to CD he's talking about the number of CD's (discs) he can stack below the mouse with it able to track still.

If memory serves me right a single CD is about 1.2mm thick.

Okay thanks for the explanation! I figured it had something to do with that but wasn't positive. Here's a new question, would any of these LOD issues even occur with my usage? My mouse never leaves the surface so I don't see this as a speed bump or sorts.
