HD6870 aftermarket air coolers? - Page 3

all these reviews show the VRM temps actually go up like 25+ C! Isn't that bad I thought max temps for those was 120C yet even with cooler they were pushing 138+ C :/

Is there any better thing to put on the VRM instead of the stickies they give u? would these work?

Again, I cant speak for the ATI version AXP (and I cant see it being any different) but with the VRAM kit I used, there where no thermal pads. They give you a tube of adhesive TIM for the Vram Heat sinks.

Im assuming it does. I have no way of monitoring those temps with an nvidia card.

Having said that, I dont OC my Vram and its stable when I run OCCT Mem check.

i think instead of bothering with this i'll just buy an MSI twin frozr II 6870 and call it a day.

idk whether to put that as top card or reference as top card for best temps... there'll a 1inch gap between GPUs so idk...

Just make sure the non reference is not dumping heat into your case. The reference cards run hotter, but exhaust air out of the case. Also, most of the reference cards OC better than the non reference, unless they beef up the components on the non reference cards.

If you did water cooling, you could have gotten my two 6870s with waterblocks.

i was actually planning on doing water cooling...

its just that im not sure if i can cool both using a RASA rx240 kit.

i dont need cpu cooling (60C ftw under prime 95 for 2 hrs) but i hope the rx240 can instead cool both cards (or at least one)

if it can i'll take ur 6870 waterblocks from you haha tongue.gif

if you could help me figure out a way to cool JUST the 2 cards... i'd be more than grateful..

i asked this in watercooling forum but they kept saying "you can't cool ur CPU" and i was like **** I DONT WANT TO COOL MY CPU -.- -.-

You can cool the GPUs alone with a RX240 fine. Watercooling alone will drop the GPU temps down to where air cooling never will. You just need the rad, fans, barbs, tubing, pump/reservoir and cards with waterblocks IF you don't buy the RASA kits itself. My I7 860 is OCed to 4.0 Ghz and runs with two 6870s on my RX360 RASA kit no sweat. With a RX240 kit and no CPU in the loop, you your don't have to worry about the GPU temps and CPU.
