Shogun 2 battle strategy?? - Page 2

Spread your whole army around all the walls as evenly as possible, the AI then will place units on every side of the battlefield to attack them, I normally rush all my units out and obliterate one side before the others get close. The AI also loves to rush its general in if your grinding its army to pulp, guess its because it wants to boost their morale. Done this a few times now, you take out 1/4 to 1/3 of the enemy army and the general before the rest of the army get close and you've won.

The only thing you have to remember is that they will generally run through the castle to get to you, so keeping a unit or three on the walls to keep them at bay is a good idea.

Remember to flank charge with your general/any cavalry you have all the time against archers, if they're in melee to begin with it can be an automatic rout.

A. Don't man the walls at all
B. Place crap units at the walls to die
Valuable units DO NOT man the walls. Keep em away and charge in once the first enemies are over the walls.
...What Units on the walls are in cover, sure if they climb the walls you can have problems, but troops on the walls are basically unkillable unless they shoot like 3 million arrows at them...or use fire arrows.

Don't mean to brag, but i've won battles against 10,000 men (usually of several enemy armies) with just 4/5k of quality samurai and siege units.

This is mostly because i run the Darthmod...mod. And the A.I is pretty predictable.

What i'll often do is i'll put my best archers/matchlock/samurai on the inner walls of the fort, ashigaru units on the outer walls and wait for them to come to me. (The plan changes if they've got loads of archers, though)

If the enemy has siege units, i'll send in a few cavalry units, one to lead off any defenders of the siege weapons, and the other to destroy them. This is also handy if the enemy A.I decides he'd rather wait for you to make the first move - they'll often give chase to cavalry units, leaving them open for attack.

If i'm defending a town though, i'll try my best to keep all my units within the castle walls. Besides, those walls thin out the enemy ranks a bit when they lose units who fall trying to climb them.

Darthmod is awesome, the only way to go is three full stacks of Chokosabe samurai archers though

Or Oda with his 33 koku upkeep yari, had 60k of them running around stomping stuff before. The only problem with armies this large and/or with such poor quality troops is that it drags on and on (mostly why I go for 100% samurai now), I ended up auto resolving most battles with that many troops otherwise it takes years to end (mostly because of the lag ).

The AI can be highly retarded with Darthmod (I have heard its a bug in the game engine though), i've had allied armies arrive to help me seige and they stood outside the castle facing the wrong way being shot at.
