Dual Single GPU or Single Dual GPU

Thread Starter
Hello OC'ers,

I'm having a little trouble finding information regarding my question through google and was hoping you could help.

-What are the performance benefits (if any) by operating a single dual GPU (like the AMD 6990/GTX 590) vs. two single GPU's in SLI/Crossfire.
-Is a dual GPU card still considered to be running in SLI/Crossfire?
-Does one run hotter than the other? Which (if either) could I get away with just air cooling my pc?

Thanks again in advance for the help. If you have any advice for my other posts, I would love the input.

Cheers

Less space and cooler with a dual card setup. More heat and more space from a dual GPU card.

a dual GPU card is still SLI. Period. smile.gif It goes by GPU's.... not physical cards/slots.

1. two single gpu cards in sli as opposted to a dual gpu card have more potential, since they both have separate power draws. 2x580s in SLI will beat a 590, they can clock much higher
2. I'm pretty sure the answer to that is yes, but not 100%, never having owned a dual gpu card
3. dual card setups would be easier to manage heatwise as far as I'm aware

cheers

i'll agree. I've had both setups. I've had countless dual card setups along with GTX295's and 9800GX2's. I'll concur with my original statement also, from experience.
