memory compatible with motherboard?

If a motherboard says 1333(o.c),1066,800 does that mean it only takes 1333 if its overclocked? Can you put 1600 ram and underclock it to work?

1600MHz RAM runs at 1333 stock, you have to tweak the RAM divider to get 1600, so you'll be okay with 1600.

It will work fine

What motherboard is this? Some low end motherboards don't support the x8 multiplier
Of course they could be talking about DDR2 here too.

this motherboard looks like one i'm eyeing. i'm thinking of getting this gigabyte ga-880ga-ud3h

i thought of the board because it has USB 3.0, onboard video and has sata 6.0.
so mister before you pull the trigger consider this motherboard.

at this point i'm just thinking about it coz my processor seems fine, my ssd's are being bottle-necked and currently max out at 4gb.

Eh ignore the mobo manufacturer saying.... unless you're on a low end motherboard from a prebuilt or it's just super cheap, the BIOS'es on all AM3(+) mobos will provide the same memory speed choices.
As with all midrange motherboards you will have the choice of running DDR3-1333, DDR3-1066, and DDR3-800 without tweaking settings. With settings tweaking, you will be able to access the DDR3-1600 x8 multiplier, often undocumented.

True and update to the newest bios too.
