Asus Formula IV Northbridge heat issue.

Out of the blue computer starts to crash on random. Check temperatures with speedfan, come to find that my northbridge temperature is 50c. I read that all I need to do is file down some screws. Would it be better to buy after market cooler?

50'C is fine for that board.

I've had it and doing the file down of the stand offs will net you about 5'C.

IMO 50'C is a good temp for your NB and it won't matter if you get it down to 45'C or so.

Any idea on the random crashes then? The heat from my northbridge was my only guess. I'm kinda bummed that that's not the reason. haha.

Has to be a bad OC.

That is a great board and it's probably that the cpu isn't getting enough voltage somewhere.

The GPUs high clocks can cause crashing too.

Hmmm, was stable all through the stress tests. But i'll make some changes.

Go Here and go down the page for the heat sink fix that may help some.

You might have the Northbridge volts too high, Mine are currently at 1.2V @ 36C atm
