My i7 920 is 3.8 Ghz (1.32 Vcore) with HT on under megahalems with scythe GT AP-15 push/pull is 80,77,75,71 under prime 95 blend test.....It's kinda high , that's why I'm considering for upgrade....

Since we're on this subject, what were your temps at stock voltages so I can reflect them to mine? I just posted a thread (in the wrong section of course) trying to see how my stock temps are before I start OCing.

I don't have the screenshot for my stock voltage , but my stock voltage before OC is about 1.27 , Prime 95 for 1 hour temperature is like 68-7+ . My place ambient temperature is 29-31 .

Yea, those temps are high, but I wouldn't blame it on the Megahalem, nor expect a D14 or SA to reduce it even 1'. The temperature could be the result of many things, weak fans, case air flow, other components throwing of heat that's lingering in the case, ...

What kind of fan rpm's are you seeing on the MH when things are running full throttle? is the pull fan running slightly faster than the push fan, or the same at least, as to not slow down the flow of air through the fins?

Have you considered looking into a fan change or a remount of the MH?

I can only comment on what I'm currently experiencing with my 2600K / Megahalem setup, but from the temps I'm seeing others getting with either the D14 or SA, those are no better and the MH is no worse. Of course in the end it's your call. Good luck.

My GT's Ap-15 in push/pull is about 17++ rpm when full throttle. Already remount the heatsink two times I think. By the way , below is the diagram of my case airflow .

A - SCYTHE GT AP-15 , 53 CFM
B - SCYTHE SLIPSTREAM , 110 CFM
C - CM 120 MM , 40 CFM
D - CM 140 MM ,60 CFM
E –SCYTHE KAZE MARU 140 MM , 63 CFM
F - 120 MM fan from tuniq , 90 CFM

How are you applying the paste just out of curiosity? I've tried various ways, and between my worst and best applications I've seen 8C differences.

I own both the Megahalems and the D14. On the same rig, I can get the two to run at 50c over ambient. But the Megatron requires a San Ace -H101 that makes 40dB noise, where the D14 only makes 28dB noise. I can make the D14 another 4dB quieter with non-stock fans.

As noted above, if you're satisfied with the noise of your Megatron, save your bucks for a SSD.

I needed to purchase a cooler for a new build and decided to use my old megahalems with Yate loon fans for that build and purchase a NH-D14 for my use. I was pleasently surprised by the 4C on average improvements that I observed with the stock fan equipped D14.

I still love the megahalems though and use them on two other machines.

Not to mention that with your Gigabyte board you can set your fans to be Voltage controlled. That's the way to do it with the D14 and stock fans.
