M2N32 WS Pro

Thread Starter
hey, hi!

Going from an Athlon XP system with an Asus NF7-S and a 3ware 9500S (PCI-X) to an ASUS M2N32 WS Pro I just found.

What CPU options specifically eco line are best/available?

I'm looking at this: Phenom II X4 910e with a TDP of 65 watts.

The new build should use less power or at least not more than the Athlon XP system does now. It runs all the time however CPU usage usually is minimal when not also being used as a desktop.

Thanks.

The 910e will work just fine.
For even more power savings use Cool and Quiet.
The AthlonII cpu's will work on your board too.

Good luck

what would you recommend?

my concerns is there is no increased idle power consumption going from the athlon II xx 'e' model which has a 45watt TDP, to the idle power consumption as the Phenom II Xx 'e' series?

It's going to sit using ~5% cpu at most, most of the time, comparing it with the current athlon xp set-up.

Love to pick your brain as you are way more up on this stuff than I am.

Well my x4 955 with C&Q enabled is at 20w idle,so the the x4 910e would be less I should think.

The PhenomII has L3 cache where the AthlonII does not.If that is important to you.

The x4 910e is your best bet.Power saving and performance.

What is the rest of you system? Go here http://www.overclock.net/specs.php?do=addsystem and fill it in the best you can.

i cant tell you that. it's a board right now ! lol

There is this board, and for sure a pci-x 9500s, currently installed in the athlon xp asus nf7-s board. Those 2 components for sure., the board, and the 9500S.

can you recommend a video card then also? And RAM?

I like the 910e recommendation. Having trouble finding them though. One sold over ebay in the last 15 days for 90 bucks. Seem rare. It looks like the Athlon II 245e is going for 35 bucks, and a few more but not many more, are available.

edit: found a 905e on ebay, so i'll let you know how that goes. And a Phenom II X2 550 on kijiji locally. I see it might be able to be unlocked to triple or quad core.

Need RAM recommendations though.

And should I get those artic cooling RC RAM coolers also? They fit on DDR - a set are in use on the athlon xp system. So I've had good luck with them.

For ram something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134582.
For video this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121415 or if you want a little more gfx power this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121391.

With a low power system you probably won't need the ram cooler.

I used the links above just for reference,as you are in the UK, prices and availability may vary.

Good luck

those video cards ... probably get something more budget anyway, or used you know? spent 20 bucks on the board, prolly 20 on the cpu if i can get an energy efficient athlon, figure a little more on the video card.

thanks for the tips though now i have a framework to operate in. i was lacking that b4. havent been assembling anything for quite a while.
