Thread Starter
I bought this USB 56k modem for when I have to travel

It works in XP and Windows 7 downloads drivers for it via Windows update

but everytime I dial on Windows 7 I get an IRQL_LESS etc bsod

Now how can that be, it works in xp, dials fine and when I put it on windows 7 (32 bit) it installs the drivers and says its fine but when it dials up it BSOD's

its a smartlink 56k usb modem, which later became connexant

any help would be appreciated.

It's likely the driver causing the BSOD. Try to update it, or contact the maker to see if you can get a newer driver that works in Win7, or even a Vista driver. At the least try using it in a different USB port. If that fails, I'm going to assume you have a smart phone; have you considered tethering?

I kinda realize its the driver causing the crashes

The manufacturer is long gone (actually bought chinese clone)

Works great on Windows XP with given drivers

but windows update on windows 7 actually gives the THE latest drivers

the ones windows update gave is causing a crash, its really weird

works great in windows xp

also.... the same driver windows update gets (version number, etc) is the same one all other places suggested to use for Windows 7, I tried vista and even xp drivers....

it does it when it dials out, i queried the modem, it responded
