Windows hangs at Loading Operating System after OC Fail

Thread Starter
Hey guys, was going for 5.0 ghz last night and during prime95 it crashed.. upon restart, the system doesn't boot into Windows and hangs at the "Loading Operating System ..." screen. I'm assuming my settings or OS got corrupted during the OC crash.

I've loaded fail-safe CMOS settings, setting to AHCI/IDE, making sure it's booting from the right HDD, etc...

I can't get into Safe Mode / Recovery Mode either. Pressing F8 doesn't do anything and it just ends up at the same "Loading Operating System..." screen. I can get into the Boot Options screen, which only gives me the options to boot from CD/HDD/Floppy/USB, etc.. but nothing about safe mode, recovery, or startup repair.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Last resort I will reformat I guess...

Try unplugging the PSU from the wall and hold down the power switch on your case to completely bleed off the capacitors. Then pull your CMOS battery for five minutes to completely reset CMOS.

Reseat the CMOS battery, plug your PSU back in and power it up, set whatever HD to AHCI as needed along with required boot priority and HD settings in BIOS then see what happens.

If it still hangs then you may just have to reinstall your OS.

CMOS reset is instant, the lack of power will cause instant corruption even if the data isn't wiped. That will force a CMOS reset no matter what, can't boot a corrupted CMOS.
