What Z68 motherboard to get?

Thread Starter
I'm looking to build a new system with the i7 2600k :]
First off, who agrees that a 2600k is a decent step up from my Q8400?
Secondly, I don't know what motherboard to get. I know I want z68 because it combines the best of both worlds in case I want to use the on-board video at some point and because of the ivybridge updatability.

I've been looking a lot at the ASUS P8Z68-V PRO... but I've been reading some bad reviews on newegg about it.
Currently, the ASRock Z68 professional GEN3 is the highest rated, but I can't help but wonder if that's only because it has 12 reviews vs. the ASUS's 96.

What motherboard do you guys think is best for the i7 2600k? It doesn't have to be one of the two I have been looking at either.

I plan on overclocking, but not too much... maybe 4.5, maybe even less.

The Asus and Asrock are both great mobos. The 2600k will be a nice step up from the Q8400, but really for all intents and purposes the 2500k is also a great step up. You'll love it regardless. Both are solid mobos. Have fun!

Don't get the pro.. It is useless. It has an extra 2 SATA III, but most people disable it because it slows down Boot time. It also has an 1394, but no one uses that port anymore.

What about the MSI Z68A-GD65 (B3)?
Any input on that?

Edit: This board looks really good to me. MSI and their Military class stuff is always a please... would go nicely with my Frozr II GTX 460. Also, the idea I can check the voltages on the board I really like! It has dual BIOS, that's really nice. I don't need Bluetooth so that's not an issue here. What else am I not seeing? Is there anything that makes the ASUS better? I hear it has a good UEFI, but from what I've seen MSI's is fine.

Don't overlook the asrock z68 extreme 4 gen 3. And future proofing. O' and the one little thing i like about it is that it's got a clear cmos button on the I/O.

Looks like a pretty good board, but I'm really feeling this MSi.

The MSI board you picked out looks VERY good, but do keep in mind that's a $20 you're paying. I have the Extreme4 (and admittedly, mobo looks don't matter much to me), and I believe it does pretty much everything this MSI board does.

Just my

All of the mid range Z68 boards are good and are going to give you very similar performance. The MSI Z68A-GD65 is a good board imo. I've been running mine for about a month and have had no issues. Their UEFI is actually quite good, I've never used ASUS' UEFI so I can't comment on if it's better or not.
